Yeah, I don't know how Shahter was personally affected by the Russian economic collapse following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, but while in Saint Petersburg, I heard many stories of families subsisting each day for a couple years solely on cabbage soup and similarly cheap and bland food. I imagine it was not a time he would be inclined to forget.
