Lets not pretend like it isn't a huge overwhelming part of why he endorses Obama.
According to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, President Obama is beating his Republican opponent among black voters by a whopping 94 percent to 0 percent. The numbers are pretty brutal for Romney among Latinos, as well: he's losing to the president almost 2 to 1. The poll has President Obama ahead among all registered voters, 48 percent to Romney's 44 percent.
Just 58 percent of blacks have a “strongly favorable” view of the president, a steep drop from the 83 percent who said so five months ago.

Obama is not totally out of favor: Eighty-six percent still say that they hold at least a somewhat favorable view of him.
I'm voting for Obama and still hold a favorable view of Powell but you don't get 95%+ of the black vote because they like his policies

Anyways, regardless of the specifics as to why he earned the black vote, I think it's going to be difficult for him to earn the percentage of that black demographic again because the second time round just doesn't hold the same groundbreaking weight. Not that it can't happen, but I don't see it happening to the same extent, at least.

no, i disagree Pochsy, because black people in America in discouragingly large numbers are "low fi" voters - General Colin Powell's endorsement only highlights the the color of your skin does not correlate with the intelligence of your mind. Most "African-Americans" will vote because, in their lifetime, they have not had a candidate that 'looked' like them (John Sunnunu, New Hampshire Governor and Bush Chief of Staff, October 26th, 2012.)

I think you're right to an extent. I agree that most American voters (and everywhere else for that matter) are disinterested in politics, and vote only on superficial grounds. With that, I think it is also important to remember that most of the American vote is fixed already. The support Obama is getting from the black community largely already existed, in fact it never seems to have dipped below about 65% of the black vote going to the democratic party. With that, Obama did get the largest portion of the Black vote to date. I think, however, that has to do with a small group of actual issue-based voters who occupy the swing vote in the middle of the political spectrum, and that it will be more difficult for him to win them just based on his race this time around.

The means by which the swing vote is altered can be argued endlessly (if I had a water-tight answer I sure as fuck wouldn't share without payment), but I just think he's lost a key selling feature in this election: that of history making.

EDIT- I could actually provide figures and explain why this isn't a complete answer, but fuck it, this is bf2s. the swing vote is about 7% of the population, so even if that entire 7% were black it don't answer shit. people switch parties though, which makes up for a small portion (maybe giving a total of 10%) of people who cannot be called disinterested.

The only black people I know of that wouldn't vote for Obama are people who are extremely Conservative Christians, I know one or two black people like that.  One of them said the world is going to hell if Obama is re-elected.

A lot of the more enlightened black people I know who choose to at least consider other perspectives seemed to actually like a lot of Ron Paul's ideals but like so many other people also seemed to feel that a Libertarian party vote(on somebody who isn't Ron Paul himself at that) is a wasted vote so they would just as well vote for Obama again if only to keep 47%-hating Romney out of office.

I think many are also afraid of the Uncle Tom label for voting for anybody other than Obama as well, at first I thought that might be the major motivation for a lot of people and I asked my open-minded friend if that was his reason, and he said he wasn't worried about that, he just felt he could trust a black man in office better than he could trust a white man, which obviously makes a lot more sense, lol

I have seen many religious black celebrities getting all kinds of hate messages on Twitter and Facebook from other black people when they openly endorse Romney, calling them race traitors and whatnot.  It must be an awful existence when a large group of people feel like you owe them something(even if you believe otherwise, as you have a right to) just because your skin color is the same as them, it's totally killing progress and individuality for a very large amount of free-thinking people and the world in general, but that's exactly how people in high places want it to stay so they can rule over that many more people who feel that sense of obligation
