This would make life in Arizona... Well... Difficult and incredibly boring.

House Bill 2549 wrote:

The incredibly vague and subjective language in the bill makes you think it's an Aprils fools joke but apparently it's true.

Won't this be a wee bit in violation of the constitutional right of free speech?

Should be a bit narrower but it's not like we don't totally understand the point.

Unfortunately with law you have to be extremely specific or you risk having the law interpreted or used in ways not originally intended.

Nah, its arizona, they encourage that kind of language
"Ah, you miserable creatures! You who think that you are so great! You who judge humanity to be so small! You who wish to reform everything! Why don't you reform yourselves? That task would be sufficient enough."

Problem is your law makers didn't grow up in a world with the internet and all this talk of trolls actually worries them.

But reaper, they use the internet!

Well yes, but how many of them know what trolling is when playing call of duty, or 4chan?

I read the whole thing. Given the choice to read Twilight or reread this thing, I'd pick Twilight.

Big Brother AZ wants to become the ultimate mod? As if AZ doesn't have enough "illegals..."

The law is too broad and was probably written by someone without much experience on the internet besides Facebook and other large mainstream sites. It was more than likely written for the purpose of prosecuting online harassment. This would be things like setting up a fake facebook of your exgirlfriend or posting someones information on 4chan hoping for a personal army or other actions that would fall under the umbrella of targeted personal harassment.

If you can't figure this out you are dense. If you think you are clever because you know some internet terms, you are not. The OP and everyone else complaining about this law fall into one or both of these two groups.

As far as I am aware it matters very little what the law is "trying" to achieve as the emphasis is based on the exact wording of the law. I think we can all see what they want to do but this law is a blunderbuss.

my 68 year-old MIS professor asked us to describe a time we've encountered a troll for an assignment. i also explained to him what a griefer is in class.

It's a poor attempt to bridge the gap between traditional harassment laws and modern technology. No need to raise the pitchforks to protect the manliness of America or something

Yup. A bitter ex making a fake public profile on FB of you with defamatory remarks, fake pictures, and other things just has to be sucked up. Never mind the professional harm having something like that up causes.
