You should do that, Mac.
The natives will still think you're a piece of shit, but that's because you're basically having a year abroad paid for by their government (whilst most of their country are still eating shit). But oh well, global community and all that! One of my best friends went there in mid-Feb for a 12 month stint in Seoul and he's really selling it to me. He got hit on by a 30-something cougar on the second day, said she looked about 22. If Asian chicks are your thing it sounds fun.

You're doing pure physics, yes? More power to you. I only like theory up to a point. I always got bored when it got into the impractical, which is why engineering is for me.
I've never heard anyone anywhere call engineering easy though. You took what? Statics?
Aus has such a huge lack of demand that defence will give anyone a 40k a year scholarship if they're doing engineering + sign up to become an occifer.
well most engy scholarships is geared towards the airforce/avionics

I honestly don't have the math skills to handle a pure physics degree. I looked at some of the stuff Spark does, and man, no way. Engineering at its heart is simply knowing how to problem solve, and apply the correct formulas.Winston_Churchill wrote:
i didnt say it was easy, just its not the hardest thing in the entire world. im interested in the experimental and new which is why i like this. nope, i took some of everything so i had dynamics, statics, electrical, computer, materials, etcJay wrote:

Isn't IT like the shit degree that people/unis that aren't good enough to do CompSci do? Over here I think IT is a Diploma, not a Degree.

Hopefully they will still be underdeveloped by the time I finish getting a teaching degree
Not too sure about the differences here... but I think IT and CompSci is pretty much the same shit in uni's here, just have different names. Kinda like Bachelor of Commerce vs Bachelor of Business.Uzique wrote:

You don't need a teaching degree, just get a Teach English as a Foreign Language certificate (there are lots of different levels of expertise). A teaching degree is way overkill, unless you're talking about getting a teaching degree for the States. In which case, why not go to Asia first? Solve your sexual frustration, maybe get arrested and put in jail for a few months... and still have a few thousand $ saved up for your expensive teacher-training course! Ding ding!
Cybargs, that link is proof the Aussie military sucks balls. You guys have no jobs for Poets in your army. Everyone knows a good military has a few Poet-officers writing about mud and blood and shit.

I'm not joking. You can't get an 'IT Degree' here. You get a BTEC National Diploma. Computer Science is the name of the degree that involves all sorts of hardware, programming, networking, philosophy type stuff with computers. IT qualifications over here is the sort of certification you'd get if you wanted to be the IT help-guy and admin guy at a business.AussieReaper wrote:

See, UK not mentioned. The second/top-tier unis over here will generally only offer 'Computer Science', which involves a lot of college level Maths and hardcore geek shit. IT == customer/office service over here.

So "IT" degrees here pretty much related more to comp-sci I guess. In Australia a BIT is a three-year or four-year undergraduate degree.
At the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), BIT is a three-year co-op scholarship degree with a one-year job placement. At the University of New South Wales BIT is referred to as "Business in Information technology" and is also a co-op scholarship degree that lasts four years.
At the University of Sydney BIT is a four-year technical program, related to degrees such as Computer Science and Software Engineering.
In all seriousness most of our Officers and shit in the military do have English degrees, just getting ALL THE JOBS. That's why we have all the famous war poets, because the commanding classes and mid-rank guys had all had super privileged education and were all marching off to war thinking it would be a jolly riot like The Iliad or something. Australia if you want a respectable military you need to start opening job postings for lit and philosophy majors. Until then it's going to be a serious bogan operation.

One of my current housemates got his undergrad in Maths from Warwick (prolly the best uni in the country for Maths) and is now doing a post-grad in CompSci information-security type thing at our ISG here. Dunno about code-monkey but I think he's onto some hardcore shit with government intelligence agencies and code-breaking jobs and stuff. That's the only time I've ever heard about a CompSci degree being sexy. If I were you I would have gone for that. James Bond-level geekery.AussieReaper wrote:

Every time I get the train to central I go past the M15 headquarters and that is a serious looking place to work. They're probably reading this message this second now because I mentioned 'train' and 'M15' in the same sentence, which I'm pretty sure can get you detained indefinitely in a former-Arab state prison with guys in black suits putting shit inside your butt
