tell me, do you think it's fair to be remember 1% of someone's life rather than 99% of it?
Yes its fair, it exposes his basic instincts - to put not taking a minute risk to his cushy life ahead of doing the right thing - most people are exactly the same however.
he was never focused on earning money.
When you're earning $1m/yr its pretty easy not to be focused on earning money I guess...

that's true. but he got multiple offers in the 60s and 70s to other programs or NFL teams for much more than what he was paid at the time. The Patriots offered him in the 70s roughly what he was paid in 2010...

it was about control, and Paterno didn't just control Penn State, he ruled it.

his actions were about maintaining control, not about earning money so - you*re right, you win.

Thats often the modus operandi of paedophiles, they get themselves into a position of power and trust where no-one will question their motives - and they stay there as long as possible.

Not that there are any accusations against Paterno, other than him turning a blind eye.

Always with the criticism of others. Stop being so miserable.

It's poor form to celebrate death, no matter how much you dislike the person.

Let the mourners mourn.

Wouldn't matter if he was a shit coach, still nothing that should be celebrated.

I'm not saying we should ignore or accept his wrong-doings, just there are other ways to do it than celebrate death, or abuse those (negatively) affected by it.

its more to the people who defend/mourn him but yes i am glad he is dead.  and when gary sandusky dies i will celebrate also.  i bet you would think twice about your statement if you were one of those kids or his family member.  if you say otherwise then you are just playing devils advocate.

According to the indictment, in 2002 assistant coach Mike McQueary, then a Penn State graduate assistant,[26] said he walked in on Sandusky anally raping a ten-year-old boy. The next day, McQueary reported the incident to Paterno, who informed Curley. Ultimately, it is alleged, the only actions Curley and Schultz took was to bar him from bringing children to the football building, take away his keys to the locker room, and report the incident to Second Mile; these actions were approved by school president Graham Spanier.[27] The indictment accused Curley and Schultz not only of failing to tell the police, but also of falsely telling the grand jury that McQueary never informed them of the alleged sexual activity.
He passed it up the chain of command. He didn't fuck kids. Get over yourself already. We get it, you hate college football. So what? Every time you dislike something you say you want whoever likes it to die. Go live on a deserted island, you'll be a happier person.

Those that showed up to his funeral weren't there to support child molesting, but to pay respect to a man that meant a lot to them/changed their lives.

And fair play to them, they can pay tribute to whoever they want, as long as the tribute isn't meant as a support of the act of child molesting.

The dude wasn't Hitler. He was not an eye witness and passed the information up the chain of command. He didn't fuck little boys.

joe let him have an office on campus.  he could have stopped it.  joe had that power.  to turn a blind eye to molestation is not ok. joe had control over EVERYTHING at state college.   it has nothing to do with college football.  keep defending him.  you are just as bad as those tards at state college.

lol go eat another donut.  you seem to be having blood sugar issues.

So he was the university president? No. He was the damn football coach. He didn't run anything but his program. Sandusky wasn't even working for him at the time the guy got caught. It's a university issue, not a Joe Paterno issue, but it's easier for the media to attach it to a well known face. It sells advertising.

Was he larger than life? Yes. But at the end of the day, just the football coach.

no dude that is not true.  you think some prez or AD would tell him what to do?  nope.  if he wanted something done or not done would they argue? nope.

religion is speculating also.  most of life is.

ask yourself which scenario is more believable.

if you say a prez or AD had any control over joe and that joe had no control over them...well i dunno dude.  not sure what to say to that.

There was some news story about the president of Penn state going to Paterno's house and asking to him to retire a year or two before the scandal. According to what I have read Paterno threw the president out of his house and refused to retire. I'll see if I could find a link.

But yeah it's universally recognized that Joe was the #1 guy on the campus.
