But I just discovered the canister shell the last few days and pubbing by myself (or with people that aren't into tanking) with that has been amazing. On Wake the tank rapes with the canister shell.
I took so long to get to it because I kept wanting to just set my tank up like they were in BF2 and was always using the LMG...which is not bad, the canister shell just seems more effective overall so far.
If your pubbing, canister shell all the way.. if you're playing with friends on voice chat, it's more effective to use the guided shell/citv. You have a much greater range, and you can hit targets out of the line of sight. The nice part is the shell locks on to anything, so you're buddies can even set up a soflam while you hide behind a building with the tank.
