Not asking for microsoft to make software backwards compatible, just keep up with security updates so millions of PCs aren't left wide open or have to be dumped.

"Yeah, we can't be bothered making brake-pads any more, you should think about scrapping your ten year old car and buying a new one
BTW that new one will force you supply all your location and speed data, have cameras installed inside and outside connected to the cloud and we will be able to brick it at any time of our choosing if we want more money or don't like your political opinion, in 8-10 years we'll brick it anyway - for the greater good"

More bachelor party news. It's in 2 weeks. I heard plans might change but it's doubtful.

Plus the cigar bar expects you to buy because this one you effectively rent out the place and the owner gives the groom a bottle of bourbon.

It sounds like this is sizing up to be one of those millennial disappointments where the bachelor party vibes don't live up to the stuff you saw on TV as a kid.

Gen Zer at work came up to me, a near exact middle of Millenial age, and said  "hey youre a boomer right?"

What do you think about the "Gen Z stare?"

Having primarily taught Gen Z, I think that a lot of the criticism of their generation is the same old stuff they said about previous generations.

Every generation does it. It's pretty fucking annoying.

I sound like a broken record, but the whole "participation trophy" criticism of millenials completely dismisses that it's the fucking parents (boomers, mostly) pushing for those, not the kids.

The idea that each successive generation of youth is "softer" than the previous generation is hilarious. Don't most parents want their kids to have more opportunities, less struggle, and an easier path to success than they had? Why push the blame down?

Ive never experienced the stare. Is it supposed to happen when you ask them something or when you walk in a store an expect them to say a greeting?
I give 0 fucks if Im not greeted by some poor person getting paid min wage to deal with the public, but I would be annoyed if I asked them for something and they just stared back, but again, never experienced

Participation trophies have always existed throughout time. They didn't call them participation trophies though. They instead called them campaign medals and ribbons.

Participation trophies are excellent for encouraging engagement. For example, the year is 1999 and your parents spent thousands of dollars on soccer camps and equipment. The leagues wants your kids to sign up again so they give everyone something to take home after the tournament. The trophy has nothing to do with social justice or liberal weakness. The trophy is so the coaches can continue to make money and fuck soccer moms on the weekend.

...

I don't fully understand the gen z stare either. Ithink it might be an anxiety thing that most will grow out of. I admit about a year ago I totally flatlined when the assistant superintendent wanted to talk to me about baseball. I was wearing a Yankees baseball cap because that is my culture and all.

He actually wanted to talk about baseball and I was trying desperately to remember what I know about baseball (I don't know about baseball or the Yankees.) So I stumbled through that.

...

I made a mistake when I first started moving my girlfriend into her place in Pennsylvania. I wore the Yankees hat in the neighborhood which instantly told everyone I was a gentrifier from the NYC area.

So I bought an Eagles hat.

i don't think i've not seen blank stares from any generation deployed against people for various or who knows what reasons.

context probably matters for the gen z stare. if someone is asking a retail worker to go check the non-existent back room and won't back down until the clerk literally walks through a door beyond which nothing is stored, this warrants a blank stare while said clerk is processing whether they're actually talking to a real person. totally deserving of the dead mackerel eyes.

or maybe i'm totally wrong and microplastics are ensuring human extinction by the 2100s.
