i am probably the only person here that has been doxxed, back when i was splurging all of my personal woes on this forum whilst living in that pressure cooker with my ex and the circle of cucks who wanted to get in her pants. my 'friend' was drip-feeding her all of the relationship advice i was seeking in an attempt to curry favour. you know, all the anger and exasperation that people let out to their friends. lmao. in the long-run it had zero effect on our relations but it was a very strange conversation to have.

i don't post anything here that i'd be afraid of my co-workers or friends finding out. no toxic attitudes, no closet sexism or whatever. the only consequence really is the awkwardness of trying to explain that, for some mystifying reason, this is one of the ways i choose to spend my time in 2020. the sharing of drug anecdotes wouldn't go down well if i was working for a major corp, but i don't, and half the people i work with take them too (sometimes at the same parties!). my conscience is clear baby!

yeah, this just falls into that category of 'things i do in private that aren't part of my social world'. it's not like hentai or sex dolls or something. all of my IRL contacts are either through the book world/publishing or through music. we interact and have friendships on that basis. we go to bars or clubs to socialize, or dinner parties and book launches. mentioning that i argue with people on a forum dedicated to an iraq war videogame from 2005 would be a bizarre nonsequitur. i'm sure my hipster DJ friends go home and paint warhammer or listen to ASMR videos or whatever, as well.

It makes you think. Like if I can hold it together in the real world what other insanity are seemingly normal people carrying with them?

yeah the nightlife world is a weird one. i'm mostly there from the music angle, i've never enjoyed going to bars just to sit behind a red velvet rope feeling important, ordering overpriced russian spirits and trying to impress bimbos. but even the DJs/promoters/music scene people normalize quite a lot of shady stuff. a lot of it is people just not knowing when to quit or go home. clubs close at 4am, everyone in ubers back to x's house, order stuff in, party until 7am, go for breakfast ... do that a few times a month and your soul starts to darken. it's entirely appropriate that people start to feel too old for that stuff. great fun, though.

being an occasional tripper is the cheapest of all. i look sideways at all my friends who have to drink beer every single week or smoke cigs/weed every day, now. i do allow myself weekend romps and long binges, but i don't consume anything out of habit.

i mean there's night life and there's 'night life'. just going to your local scuzzy bar to get drunk or your local watering hole to hit on chicks is not good. especially doing it well into middle-age. those places are for young people and for hook-ups. no one wants to be a drunken bore at a bar, well past his prime.

most of my social circle in bristol make their living from nightlife. promoting events, booking international DJs, flying them in, putting them up in hotels, arranging events and promoting them, etc. it's actually a great way to see amazing music. everyone produces and DJs and collaborates together on creative projects. that's more fulfilling than just being a barfly because you can't stand your wife at home or whatever. it's essentially a creative 'scene' like painters with small local galleries, only the communal art space is a club/dancefloor.

i have never been to a sports bar so can't comment. they are typically full of bad-smelling beery men here and frequently also full of 'firms' of fans, chanting and getting into brawls. not my idea of a good time. in fact, any bar with big televisions in it blaring out sports commentary is a hard pass for me. i want to talk to my friends.

Pregame bars are loud but aren't rowdy. Soccer is a family sport around here. Rival fans come and everyone is friendly to each other. Your experience may vary in LA

I have noticed that soccer groups almost always have more women with them with them than other sports. It might have something to do with little girls playing soccer as children or the fact that male soccer players aren't rapist/criminals/brutes.
