@uziq: Massive love/hate relationship with Windows among pc users. Part of the mess is admittedly the shared responsibility of all the disparate pieces of hardware trying to get along with one another.

To be fair there's been several new operating systems since I last built. I think XP was this thing's original, though I have run a full install of 7 since. I'm not sure I should complain that much about dragging the Z68 platform kicking and screaming into the 2020s.


@dilbert: If you do upgrade your OS, make sure you can roll back to a previous installation. Follow one of the many guides to "de-adify" the thing.

I do get a nice endorphin rush every time I fire up the the XP box. I wish I'd kept my fold-open Dell, that was solid as a brick.

Everything is fine now and I will explain. I am not going to go through the cuckold story because it isn't my finest hour. Instead I will tell you about the bread and jelly situation just now which is also not my finest hour.


So I went to buy bread and jelly from the nearby grocery store. Before that I went to the Chinese place across the street to order some dumplings. I ordered the dumplings and said I will come back for them in a few. I went and bought my groceries: a loaf of bread and a jar of jelly.

My city has a plastic bag ban now and I forgot to take a reusable bag. The store did not have any reusable bags so I had to carry my stuff out by hand. When I got outside I noticed the soldier friend/enemy who wants to kill me was outside barber shop two stores down from the Chinese place. He had a kid with his wife and I think they are taking the kid to get a haircut. Anyway he is smoking a cigarette. I didn't have anything to hide behind so I took the nearest thing to cover my face: a loaf of bread and jar of jelly and then ran across the street to the Chinese spot before he could see me.

I basically looked like this just using bread and jelly instead of a folder.

I got to the Chinese place and hid in the corner. The soldier was still outside smoking. He didn't see! When my food was done I grabbed it and YOLO'd out of the door wearing my bread mask and nearly running. I must have looked like a crazy person.

I didn't look behind me until I safely got home.

I haven't bought anything from Amazon for five years, really trying not to, also a lot of stuff doesn't ship to Australia because they're trying to rape us on price through Amazon Australia.

i've just been on a four-day stag do and now i am destroyed. i didn't book adequate time off work. fml.

it was a group of 26 who all put in about $200 each to a mutual pot, which covered all the drinks all weekend. the pot is now empty.

drinking nonstop for a whole weekend.
three fairly bad meals, e.g. 'gourmet' burgers and fries with little nutrition.
fairly nonstop titration of coke to balance out the inebriation and maintain a good level.
MDMA on the last evening.
this was interspersed with a 10am paintballing trip, in deep january, apparently taking place in a bog.

we also had to evacuate our rented townhouse because one of my friends had smuggled out a huge red smoke grenade from said paintballing and threw it in the passed-out stag's bed at 4am in the morning. entire floor of the building filled up with acrid red smoke, all the bedding and lots of the clothing were stained pink. couldn't get rid of it, it just hung around like mustard gas.

wedding is in 2 weeks so i imagine it'll be the same deal again very soon.

that's the first time i've done something like that in 4-5 months. i was dreading drinking for 3-4 days more than anything else, yes. it makes me tired and depressed. plus i hate ending every night in a sozzled state, eating greasy grips to try and soak up the booze. it felt like a gruelling endurance marathon. not something i'd do by choice if it wasn't a dear best friend's stag.

one guy was smoking weed the entire weekend. there's always one. i can't think of a less-suitable drug for 3-4 days of being out and about, at bars and being social.
