When debris rained from the sky in lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001, the first responders to the terrorist attack did not turn away. They rushed to the World Trade Center buildings while the world around them crumbled.

Yet now, after all the wreckage has been cleared and the rebuilding has begun, their path is again blocked — not by flying chunks of
smoldering rubble, but by space constraints.

The first responders are not invited to this year's September 11 memorial ceremony at ground zero, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office confirmed.

It's a painful insult for many of the approximately 3,000 men and women who risked their lives, limbs and lungs on that monumental day, puncturing another hole in a still searing wound.

In a statement, Bloomberg spokesman Andrew Brent said the commemoration ceremony is for the victims' families.

"While we are again focused on accommodating victims' family members, given the space constraints, we're working to find ways to recognize and honor first responders, and other groups, at different places and times," Brent said.
That's some bullshit right there.

I guess it's alright if it's meant only for victim's families. If the first responders were the only group left out I would call bullshit, but they're not.

He should instead disinvite all the mouth breather politicians that will undoubtedly be there.

How many big wigs will be there just for the photo-op? Replace them with the first responders who sacrificed and lost. The working people damn it!

why do the first responders have to be included in this particular ceremony that's meant to honor the victims of the attacks and their families?  Would they be accepting of a different ceremony honoring first responders?  Seem's like they are complaining over something fairly trivial

Let's be real here. The people who were working in the towers on that day were victims, but there's nothing to celebrate when it comes to being a victim. The people who primarily deserve honor for that day, and who should be at the forefront of any remembrance ceremony are the people who knowingly ran into the towers in order to save the lives of others. Heroism should be remembered, not being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Peoples daddy's and mommy's die every day. It's tragic, but it doesn't make them more important than the people that gave their lives in an attempt to save those daddy's and mommy's.

Why do I have to turn off my tv for hours every 9/11 for people that can't let go and need to read the names of every single person that died that day on national tv? Where is the memorialization of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines that have given their lives on every day since that day ten years ago? It's barely made the news on the tv for the past six years.

I understand that.  So have another ceremony for them.  If they have the ability to honor the first responders in another ceremony, they should do it and make everyone happy.  If those first responders are still pissed that they can't be a part of that specific ceremony, well then they should go cry in a corner.

3 years, 4 tops.  The media coverage waned once the bamster took charge for it they didn't & don't want to put anything out there that could possibly make the the potus look bad.  I imagine the cindy sheehan types are feeling quite used by the left at this point.

My guess is that the people in the towers were civilians.  Sure one assumes a risk every day when they get up and go to work (car accident, heart attack, etc.), but who in their right mind thinks that a fucking jet is going to plow into their building because of some dickhead on the other side of the planet hates their country?  Now I'm not a military expert nor have I served, but I'd guess that members of the military knowingly assume a greater risk when they go to work every day.   Personally, I'd go to a memorial if one is ever built and pay my respect to the troops next time I go to DC before I'd go to ground zero... But hell, honestly Jay, I dunno.

These guys are cool.

If I was mayor of NYC, I'd give them total access to all ceremonies.  I'd love to run a campaign against bloomberg after this.

Yeah because there are tens of thousands that were first responders on that day there in NY.

I did as well when I started seeing this a couple weeks ago.
Due to "lack of room", NYC Police Officers, Port Authority Police Officers and FDNY Firefighters are not "invited" to the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at Ground Zero. Funny - they weren't invited on 9/11/2001, either - they
just "showed up" and became our heroes. Please re-post if you think they belong MORE than the politicians who are invited
http://www.snopes.com/rumors/responders.asp
The chain doesn't tell the whole story. The implication is that the first responders are simply going to have to sit out on the sidelines. It's tugging on a very obvious sentimental string.
"While we are again focused on accommodating victims' family members, given the space constraints, we're working to find ways to recognize and honor first responders, and other groups, at different places and times," Bloomberg Spokesperson Andrew Brent said in a statement.
You'll also note that the copypasta doesn't mention that the reason that the space will be limited is it will be filled with victims and their families. Surely a good part of that group is also first responders. That doesn't fit with the agenda of chain mails though. I see the point of chain mails and status updates to get people emotionally fired up just to see how far their little project will go.

Silly civilians.

It's the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and an election year.

It's not about the victims, or the responders, or any of the other 'little people' personally affected that day.

It's about the tear-jerker cable news story.
It's about the political grandstanding.
It's about the spotlight, the attention, and the egos.

Silly silly little people.
You only matter as backstory.
No need to make room for you, like you really matter or something.

Just give up the damned pretense, and sell seats at $10,000 a pop, like any other uber political fundraiser...

"leadership" had their fists up their own disorganized, helpless asses ten years ago, and left it to the little people to risk/give their lives to help others.  Ten years later, the "leadership" is all over the anniversary - and excluding those that actually did a damned thing that day.  Typical.
