Not even 20 minutes in and the Welsh captain red carded! Holy fuck Wales, keep it together! I don't want to see France in the final almost as much as I don't want to see Australia there.

Edit: Half Time, 6 - 3 to France. I still see no reason Wales can't win this, they have been in control of the game. It was only a silly breakdown decision that led to France geting ahead, (what did I say about Wales at the breakdown?) However even though they're down a man their defence has been solid and their attack has found weaknesses in the French line. They need to realise though that it is going to be very very difficult for them to outflank the French and they're probably going to have to rely more on kick-and-chase type plays or barrelling through the line rather than passing to the wings - which they have been doing. Their lineouts and scrums are now at a considerable disadvantage so they need composure, dicipline, and to keep the game as much in the French half as possible.

C'mon Wales, don't choke now! That's our job!

Such a shame, Wales controlled the game despite being a man down, it was an incredibly valiant effort. France on the other hand played a very conservative game, hoping that their meagre lead would be enough. It's always a shame to see it won by the team that played the poorer game and I would have loved to have seen Wales rewarded for their brilliant work. Unfortunately at the end of 80 minutes nine is a bigger number than eight.

Retrospectively there were a couple of poor choices, (and attempts,) to take drop goals and that Halfpenny penalty and that conversion were a lot more important than originally thought. Plus gifting a penalty due to that poor decision at the breakdown. Fuck hindsight.

Well now New Zealand has got to beat the Wallabies, I don't want to see a final with no team that I can cheer on in it. I suppose I'd rather see France win it than Australia but I really don't think France has enough to beat the Wallabies and I reckon if they get past NZ they pretty much have their third cup in the bag.

GO ALL BLACKS! The last time you won the World Cup it was a New Zealand vs. France final played in Eden Park! Make history repeat!

Like I said, the game was going to be won in the first 20 minutes. How the Wallabies looked at the start of the Tri Nations final is how the All Blacks looked in this one. Brilliant play and an early try to Nonu. It just confirmed to them that this was their house and they weren't going to let Australia take this one from them. There were some key players who were just faultless. Israel Dagg, Richard Kahui and Cory Jane, (among others,) played flawlessly. I could go on about how good Dagg is. Accurate as all Hell under the high ball, so fast when it comes to those snap decisions, (one of which led to Nonu's try,) and dangerous as a runner. Aaron Cruden, the now third first-choice flyhalf, was cool, calm and made some epic plays including a sweet drop goal to keep the ABs scoreline ticking away. Weepu made a lot of misses and I was bloody scared that he would give away a point too many but the majority were difficult kicks and he certainly got enough right. Not a fault to be seen. And not a Stephen Donald to be seen either which was nice.

Sonny Bill Williams big effort on the night was being sent off within five minutes of coming on. Oh well, at least it was due to a knock on Cooper.

Australia played well, better than they have for a lot of the past games this World Cup. The ABs defence was just too good and the Wallabies didn't get enough opportunities to cause damage. They were threatening as Hell but it never quite paid off. Cooper and an awful first half but he was put under immense pressure, I think his mouth and his ego caught up with him and if there was a choke to be had it was his - fitting for a Kiwi. Other than that Australia didn't have all that bad a game, they were simply outplayed by a better team who wanted it more.

An incredible game it has to be said. That is top-notch Rugby. Be nicer if there were more tries but both teams had to be conservative given that this is a World Cup.

New Zealand in the Final! Fuck yes, for only the third time! And against France, a team the All Blacks have already beaten in this tournament. Would have liked it to be someone else to be honest, France is somewhat of an Archilles' Heel and I thought we'd seen the last of them when we had our revenge game in the pool stages. Oh well, if they did it then and they did it in 1987 then they can do it now. Go All Blacks!

And never mind Australia, you smashed the Kiwis in the League. And I mean smashed.

Now Wales play Australia in the third place playoff. With Wales seething from their French game misfortune and Australia disheartened from this game Wales may prove a big challenge to the Wallabies. Interestingly enough while 1987's NZ-hosted World Cup saw NZ and France in the final it also saw Wales and Australia in the Bronze Final. Weird. Wales won that one by one point.
