Next May I'm hoping to go on a 3-4 week long trip to Europe.

After flying into Heathrow and running around England for a few days, I'd like to visit France>Netherlands>Germany>Austria*>Switzerland(maybe)>Italy>Spain* (I'm open to suggestions on where to visit and where to avoid).

Ted suggested I grab an InterRail pass and take advantage of the many hostels around EU. Looks like I'm stuck wtih EUrail as InterRail is for EU residents only.

My question is: Where should I visit and who wants to grab a drink (or two) while I'm over there?

I want to go to France for my honeymoon next year. I want to do Brittany, Normandy, and Belgium, she wants to do the south.

I found France is nicer the further away from Paris you get. The French too.

I suggested it, but she wants to go to the beach.

Oh well, it's not like it's the main attraction of a honeymoon anyway

But then you don't have that useful trump-card of "I've been there, I know" in any EU-related debate!

Seeing as you want to avoid Paris I guess you've already been there? (jay)

You better be going to Bruges. It's high on my list of places-to-visit.

You've never been to Europe before, have you? Venice is touristy as fuck, but it really is a place you should see, imo. If you take a night train in from wherever you are, eat pizza from delivery-places, you can stay there without spending that much (you'll need a day rider or similar for the boats though, which is extortionate) either for one day (take a train in the evening) or two (there is only one cheap place to stay - http://www.hostelvenice.org/ - huge institution-like rooms, but it's relatively cheap and in Venice.)

Also, Florence is fantastic. As is Rome. Pisa is meant to be shite apart from the giant slanting penis thing, and not entirely safe at night.

Nah, I just don't feel like waiting hours on line at The Louvre, the Eiffel Tower doesn't excite me, and I want to enjoy myself, not deal with angry hipster Parisians

Oh it's not all bad, the louvre is quite accessible, just avoid the mona lisa, there's always a huge crowd around it (mainly japanese tourists for some reason).

But yeah if that's the case there won't be much to visit. Food is great though.

You're going to Switzerland and Germany and not Spain? If you're going to go to Europe you have to go to Spain. Mind boggled.

Kehlsteinhaus is worth a visit. You can see uncle Adolf's ghost there.

If you want to get drunk as a skunk and score with Finnish and Swedish ladies hop on a cruise between Helsinki and Stockholm

We were also thinking about a Baltic cruise, yeah. She's Norwegian-German descent, and I'm Swedish-German. And it will be in June so the weather will be nice (hopefully).

If you want a more calm 2-night cruise, pick Silja Line. It's a tad more expensive which shows in the population. Viking Line then has all the young dumb and full of cum folks in them Plus all the others who are just going on the boat to get snus and to get laid and cheat on their other half. And the Silja vessels are a wee more luxuryish.

It's not out of the question. I'm just trying to figure out how to squeeze in as much as possible without spending 90% of my trip on public transport

Where in north-east Spain would you recommend?

@Funk: Don't have the money for a cruise
