I would rate those two quotes as some of the smartest and most honest statements about the U.S. economy to come from either a Repub or Democrat in the last three years. It saddens me it's going to be quote mined and used against him.The way I think about it is, this is a great, great country that had gotten a little soft and we didn’t have that same competitive edge that we needed over the last couple of decades. We need to get back on track.

But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We’ve kind of taken for granted — well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America

i dunno why he thinks going even more crazy is the answer. i think he's angling for a VP slot as the christian conservative vote getter.
Which is stupid because the christian conservatives are not going to vote for Obama no matter who the republicans throw up there

At the moment he is trying to win the primary. He doesn't care about the Perry v Obama battle right now.Jay wrote:

For the Republican primary, the demographic you aim for is the stupid christian conservatives. They are the people who vote in the conservative primaries more than any other group of people.
Of course it has nothing to do with crippling and inefficient regulation. The way I think about it is, this is a great, great country that had gotten a little soft and we didn’t have that same competitive edge that we needed over the last couple of decades. We need to get back on track.
there aren't as many of them as you think. he might win one state on his current platform.AussieReaper wrote:

perry wants to be "the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses".

Funny how everybody hates Tebow for his praying.
Apparently it's working.

Heard a poll the other day that he likely wouldn't even win his own state's primary at this point...Jay wrote:

Whats interesting is the low calibre of candidates on both sides.
The party systems and the political system as a whole must thoroughly suck if this is the product it spews out.

You got that right. We're pretty much fucked either way.Dilbert_X wrote:

If it's not one assfuck up there, it's another. I have no faith in our government anymore, it's so broken it amazes me.

Here we basically have party apparatchiks weaseling their way into positions of power, no-one else gets a look-in.
Fuck Israel
and here you basically have the usual age-old elite of eton/ppe graduates each taking consecutive turns to clap each other on the back and line each other's coffers before quitting term and passing on the act to the next spritely young chap

Replace eton/ppe with Harvard/Yale. And replace quitting and passing on the act with staying in until old and feeble and you have the US system.

Society's dropouts is our system. It took our vice pm a whole 11 years to complete a history degree and our pm 8.
