You must have missed that part where he said we can't do it.. and the insinuations that we need to pull back (actually he said flat out that we need to pull back and take care of our country). He even mocked the tempation to "stick our fingers in the chest of the Chinese and tell them what a bunch of baddass's we are". You've obviously got a predetermined opinion. That's the only way your replies make any sense.

Well aware of the Korean war and the massive casualties we inflicted on them with our firepower. Just wondering when the fucking present day war will happen, as for developed nations not going to war with eachother these days, that can change.

Holy shit, the Korean War was a fucking stalemate. The PRC was barely a year old when it happened, had hardly any industry and was suffering from food shortages. They were armed with shit that the Germans sold them during the 19 fucking 20s and they still managed to fight to a stalemate. Fuck you.

They also had a big fucking army to make up for it and blindly charged all together like a bunch of morons while our artillery blew them to bits. Only was a real stalemate due to a pussy ass president.

His argument as to why "We can't do it anymore" is that the country is broke. There was no argument from him saying that telling the Chinese what basasses you are lead to the problem. Or that that sort of action should be the norm.

If we weren't broke we'd be able to tell the Chinese we're not to be messed with, like we used to - that was his argument from what I took.

The why is very important in his point. Our financial distress is a sobering fact that Americans need to realize. He made no specific mention of what we should have been doing in the past, although it reasonable to think that he's being critical of past spending with his "we're flat on our ass broke" remark. And like I said, couple that with his mocking of our in-your-face attitude, I really don't see how he's sabre rattling. Can we not make any mention of improving our country without being accused of unneeded patriotism now?

By all means improve the country. But using the argument that we can't even stand up to the Chinese like we used to, is looking at it from the wrong direction, imo.

Compare the education standards, public works, employment etc

That was but a minute or two example of what we should not be doing. Again, I don't understand how saying we can't do it and that we need to pull back and take care of our country, which I assumed meant focusing on other goals (ie standards, public works, employment etc ), is somehow construed as sabre rattling.

I didn't know china had a minimum wage until recently. I don't know why I assumed otherwise. I guess my thinking and image of Chinese sweatshops/poor working conditions was inclusive to not have a min wage. I recently read an article about how much it has increased over the last few years.

I am totally qualified to speak on this subject, my grandfather served in Korea, in the PLA.

China's troops had poor morale in general, very poor equipment, and suffered casualties due to the cold.

Human wave attacks were the only logical decision for the PLA. They lacked the communication and logistics to coordinate attacks more effectively. Combined with the large size of their army, it's the logical tactical choice to make.

The US's logical choice was to destroy their manpower with our firepower.  Thus, the popularity of the "Van Fleet Load."

Better spend more on the Navy. China has subs too!

Pretty sure you're already well ahead in terms of Naval supremacy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_ … _worldwide

There's 11 aircraft carriers to China's 1, for example.
Article is about countering Chinese sub buildup with more anti-sub capabilities.

And you bring up aircraft carriers?

Derp.

Aren't aircraft carriers the most capable anti-submarine part of the average fleet with their submarine-hunting helicopters?

Used to be the case for the British Navy.

Reading comprehension would be realizing the point of the article.

@ Dilbert: best anti-submarine capability is another sub.

Really? I thought the most cost-effective anti-sub capability was a carrier with helicopters dropping sonobuoys all over.

Why would you want it to, moron? You do understand that the reason developed nations don't go to war with each other is because we all have nukes pointed at each other, yes? Stop being retarded.
