I cram all my subjects, very luckily into 2 10 hour days without breaks so i have enough time to possibly do some casual work, if i can find it cause people don't like hiring uni students (as they are unreliable on time tables) just so i can pay for my car situation.

My uni is 70km from home. that's 140km return trip. Petrol is hitting $1.55/L here at the moment.

So lets do some maths.

Current expense:

I get 8.9L/100km

so that's 12.46L a day * 2 is 24.92

*1.55 = $38.62/week for 26 weeks.

car greenslip (compulsary life insurance) // registration // comprehensive insurance //average servicing costs/yr

410.43 // 403.00 // 842.00 // $1200 = 2855.43

2855.43/52 = 54.91/week

so to just hold up enough money to get to and from uni alone, i need to work at least 2 days a week. (full days) (~$100)

meanwhile this is my calander...

there is no structure to what i'm doing, which makes it the hardest.

I would MUCH rather have this piece of paper on my wall and have a structured full time job. You can work your life around something like that. This is clusterfuck as it can get.

interns over here have to work for 3 months non-paid in one of the most hyper-competitive, rushed-pace, expensive-to-live cities in the world. then they're often cycled through 3-4 internships and used as short-term slave labour, with not a lot of hope of securing a final placement (which is how internships did/should work, especially out in the more laidback areas)... i wouldn't say interns are pampered. i'm having to save for about 3 months of my life just to finance an internship... i'm working my ass off and saving for a summer so that i can then work for someone else, for free, for my next summer. it's not my idea of fun and far from my idea of "pampered". but it is simply what you have to do to get ahead and to get a good resume/reputation nowadays... i just hope your company is a prestigious one that can justify taking on free flunkies, rather than one of the many mediocre small-to-medium sized businesses that are just hopping on the free labour culture of today.

undergrads that don't do the "living on campus" experience baffle me. you're missing out on parties, pussy and true student living. who wants to drive home for a hot meal from mom after "playing responsible mature adult" on campus all day? take some charge of your life - it's half the point of university. the learning and the degree is only part of the formative process - the rest is the personal transformation from coddled mummyboy to self-serving adult. i don't care about the "costs", either, get a fucking loan and live a little.
