@Pos right now they're predicting more of a sideswipe for the DC area. We're under a tropical storm watch but that's "all." I think the stores will be worse tomorrow (which sucks cos that's when I'm moving in to my house near uni and I need to go grocery shopping!) and Saturday, particularly if the projected path moves westward.
@AR I'm pretty sure they have enough tampons. And even when I had a gf I never bought tampons for her

the rag it would be, literally.
In the andros household they don't believe in tampons. They use wadded up recycled biodegradeable reusable organic rags. The string is made from human hair rescued from the drain.

mom lives on the seventh floor of an apartment building so no worries for flooding, and I doubt any tree branches will fly up and break a window so they're set on that front.
I on the other hand will be living in a basement.

This honestly wouldn't be that bad of a storm given the current projections for us if it wasn't for the shitty electric utility. Pepco blows, they don't bother trimming trees and they're too cheap to bury the power lines underground so every time there's a strong storm (snow, rain, anything) there's a good chance that a lot of people will go without power for a few days.
when gloria (the last really major hurricane to hit LI besides Bob) hit in '86 apparently the power was out for like a week. hopefully LIPA does its job efficiently this timeHurricane2k9 wrote:

honestly it's kind of funny to see people freaking out though. people all over work are going nuts thinking the earth is about to reverse polarity or something.
Suffolk always ends up with tens of thousands powerless after every major storm. Lots of big trees.

my area (port jefferson) has a shitload of tall trees, so i'm expecting my power out for at least a solid 2 days
i think the latter would be less devastating actually but yeah, it'll be pretty rough but I don't think it'll be much compared to what they get in the south barring some crazy last-minute strengthening of the cyclonePoseidon wrote:

I think Pepco was voted one of the most hated companies in the US, or at least the area.
