this VE day speech by germany is powerful stuff.
much better than the fantasist, jingoistic bollocks that most of the victors continue to peddle.

that’s because your country is one big victorian workhouse. european countries take it as a holiday.
There is no reason why the U.S. has a Memorial day and a Veterans Day. We should eliminate Veterans Day and replace it with Election Day. Real heroes die in wars. Then get rid of Columbus Day and MLK Day. That way it is fair that white and black people each lose a holiday. We then move Labor Day to May 1st so we can celebrate May Day with everyone else. Since we now have two spare Holidays, we can give Easter a second day and make Halloween a holiday to placate the atheist and Satanist when they complain about a long Easter.
We recently stopped sending children into dangerous factory machines to fix clogs and jams. So we have been making progress.uziq wrote:

Or keep those holidays but give people more yearly time off to do with and when as they see fit.SuperJail Warden wrote:

Absolutely not. People would waste their time building decks and writing cuckold erotica.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Jay's deck is a suburban art piece. Modestly single level, affixed to his house, and wraparound. It makes a statement about the character of the building in the way a basement, workshop, or even fresh paint job couldn't.SuperJail Warden wrote:

Going off of some of the veteran responses to the NFL protests, the guy in the chair would possibly cheer the kid on for not buying into this overly regimented ritual.
Make sure to draw him with his feet on the desk to emphasize how much of a bum he is, unlike the prim and proper of his Hitler Youth classmates. Propaganda.
Probably deserves to get obnoxiously watermarked by a facebook group.

I always make the kids stand up and be quiet for the pledge. I can't get them to not use their cellphone while standing. Thinking it over, it is actually a little endearing of them.
There's probably a certain dark irony to corporations hooking children on apps shrewdly put together to be as addicting, engrossing, and distracting as possible, and then pivoting to whinge about the low skill work force.
The pledge probably makes sense as an American institution in terms of a school assembly, but in a daily classroom setting it always felt like background noise.

There's a certain dark irony in making kids stand up and chant as a reminder that America defeated Nazi Germany.

Should probably remind the kids of that each time they do it.The Pledge was supposed to be quick and to the point. Bellamy designed it to be recited in 15 seconds. As a socialist, he had initially also considered using the words equality and fraternity[18] but decided against it, knowing that the state superintendents of education on his committee were against equality for women and African Americans.
Maybe girls and black kids shouldn't have to?

The pledge is quick. The national anthem is what takes time. Only three minutes. I don't mind it at work in the morning or as part of the pre-game sports stadium ritual. I would resent it under any other circumstance.
I dunno, I'm kind of with some of the earlier baseball guys in thinking that it cheapens the anthem to play it before a sporting event.
Our national anthem controversy seems trivial compared to all of the other crisis of legitimacy in this country. It says a lot about the people who had a heart attack about NFL players protesting. In retrospect pretty brave protest?
If my pulse read is correct, I think people cared less about those protests before others told them they should be mad about it.
The people being mad about it definitely helped propel awareness of it. I would never had heard about it if it wasn't for the articles explaining how unpatriotic the NFL players were.

She can't say virtue signaling. That is a Republican phrase to dismiss people."We want those jobs," Grisham spokeswoman Tripp Stelnicki said. "It's wild that anyone would jeopardize viable employment for potentially hundreds of state residents because of some political virtue-signaling."
