spent £1000 on a Dell XPS when bf2 came out lol, what an idiot
i used to play call of duty 1/2 on an alienware... that shit was megabucks back then. nowadays you could play those games on a £250 laptop from pc world made by some nameless taiwanese shithole. figures. best thing is just to fork out on a motherboard/PSU/essentials with some upgrade-ability, long-term (if there is such a thing) and just buy wisely on processor/graphics/RAM. that shit can be swapped out in 2-3 years time... i rarely see the point in buying the absolute-best graphics, because it'll be mid-range at best in 2 years. i've had one exception to that rule and that was my 8800GTX SLI's... but that's because a) the 8800GTX was a pretty rare powerhouse of a card and b) it was SLI that pulled it through, lifespan wise, which was in the long run an incredibly unwise money investment, considering by the time those cards were outdated, so was the entire mobo and processor.

Probably had what all prebuilt 'PERFORMANCE PCS' have; decent at best CPU, and onboard graphics.

hardware has hit a point where upgrade is not needed for 3 years.

I completely agree that computers are a gigantic waste of money. Having said that, I built a mid-range sort of PC 4 years ago now, and with the exception of a graphics card upgrade after that died it's still going strong. I don't play a lot of games these days, but whenever I have played a new game it's performed fine.

Same, I built one a bit further back for around £400 and the only real thing it was missing was a graphics card. Lasted at least 4 years.

My last comp I bought for BF2, lasted roughly five years before getting tired. Tbh I'm only hoping this one will run BF3 really well, considering BF is the only game I play online and I would prefer to have on PC.

I have to agree on this. The 6800 Ultra lasted me quite a long time. If PCIe had been a bit more mature and prevalent at the time I bought it, I'd have been better off going slightly cheaper and SLI-ing a year later. Right now, my earmarked card is a GTX570 and the still-unused low-profile 9800GT sitting on my shelf. (inb4 AMD guys groan).

3 GB of Memory (triple channel) in my computer thinking of bumping it up to 12 GB (triple channel), though Vista runs fine with 3GB so not in a real hurry to upgrade just yet.

Just double it, unless you don't care about the price difference.

Also, plastic hangers can kiss my ass. I have a stack of the flimsy, broken things.
