Friend of mine has asked me to put together something for £6-700.

I'm thinking this bundle, or the same components from elsewhere.

Trying to figure out what graphics card to get, thinking 460, for bang-for-buck.

thoughts?

comes to 770 with vat. It can be trimmed down a bit, but I'm to tired for that at the moment.

To keep it within the budget just go with 4GB of Cas9 RipjawsX, grab the standard P8P67 board and you could probably get a cheaper CPU cooler unless he's planning on some serious overclocking.

That's not really water cooling, but it is somewhat cheaper and quieter than a lot of the other options. I dont know much about the askasa or bequiet brands, so I didn't really want to recommend one of them.
You could also get the asus p67m-pro for cheaper. You could go with a lower power psu. There weren't any good matx case options though.

made some adjustments after a nap. Set you up with an AMD option, and in price this time:
ofc you can go with some cheaper stuff and make it less.

do not need to pay extra for asus motherboard - the times when motherboards mattered are long gone. now that memory controllers and a whole lot of other shit are all build in the cpu, just get any mb with solid capasitors and it will outlive its socket for sure, even if you overclock. msi or asrock will do nicely.

do not need watercooling. unless of course you plan to overclock it skyhigh, in which case you need a better psu anyway, 650 is too low.

for the money you save on mb and watercooling and other stuff you'd want to squeeze in a 80gb ssd drive to install your OS on - those are awesome.

do not ever use samsung DVD-ROM's - total crap. get Nec or Pioneer.

It would help if all specifics were established in the OP so people don't have to spend the first page grilling said OP for them.

Any of the decent MSI or asrock mobos are in the same price range as that asus. Why not go with tried and true.

Note: As stated before. That is no a real water cooling solution and does not preform as such. It is a space saving solution that cools well with low noise output. The A50 he has listed in the op gets in the way of installing ram with medium to high heatsinks when the fan is used in a push configuration. Also the fan is nice and loud.

How is a tx 650 to little for OCing with that set up.

Ssds are nice. But he has a low budget. The set up is just what I would reccomend.

Never had a problem with any dvd rom of any brand. Tbh i chose the samsung because it was the first cheap sata I noticed and I have used plenty before with no issue... and its a dvd rom... can't remember the last time I heard of dvd rom brand favoritism.

not where i live. you have to pay at least 40-50% more simply for the name here. but that, of course, may not be like that where you are.

60 pounds? for a cooler? no. just... no.

the fact that your computer works does not actually mean you have enought power. as you overchlock, the starting currents when you turn your pc on tend to grow exponentially. it will start, sure, but it's a lot of stress. if you have an okay mb that's usually mitigated by it's filtering stuff, but the psu itself if it's not powerfull enough will take a huge hit every time. it may cause a problem, it may not, but, generally, it's better to be saving on something other than psu.

he'll get a lot more out an ssd drive than fancy coolers and brandname mb's - that was my point.

been finxing pc's, among other things, for a living for 10 years+, i'm speaking from experience. samsung drives are total crap, in half a year they'll stop reading half of the disks. but then again, you may generally have better stuff out there than we do here in russia.

Actually I was refering to the prices at the shop he listed. I'm not from the uk and don't know their etailers that well. The shop has a difficult layout to work with, which makes putting a build suggestion up difficult. Their stock also seems quite limited in important areas and unlimited in less important areas.

Much easier to put a build togeather on newegg.

That motherboard is brilliant, I have just built a computer for a friend with it. Very easy to work with.
