See the post above. People showing up to cast votes as others or votings a hundred times is not an effective way to screw with election results. It doesn't occur anymore since it's not an effective way to screw with an election and it's not at all easy to do.

Modern voter fraud happens with throwing away ballots, tweaking machines, shutting down polling places, etc.

Where I live it's already required to show your ID, and Democrats have plenty of representation.

If they're so concerned about certain people not being able to have IDs(which seem fairly crucial to modern live), perhaps they should make IDs more available to these people instead of making a big stink about requiring them to vote.

Black people don't have $5? I need to keep up with my racial presumptions.

Or they could just make it require IDs. There are enough things that require a state issued ID that I'd say it shouldn't be an issue of whether or not someone has one. If it's really a concern for poor people to have an Id they need to make them more accessible, plain and simple. Every citizen should have the right to prove they are who they say they are.

Unless, of course, this is about illegal immigrants voting, in which case, well, tough shit. They'll have to campaign to give every Mexican citizen the right to vote in America if they really need those votes.

Most can, however there are people who are poor enough that the ablity to vote is not worth $5. And poll tax is unconstitutional anyway.

I'm sure there are, I'm just curious what being black has to do with it.

Being Black has everything to do with it.

Poll taxes were created during the post Civil-War period as a means of discouraging now enfranchised Blacks from voting.

I think critics are just worried that it'll be tougher to double and triple-vote.

You have to be registered to vote. You get a letter every election time that tells you where you have to go to vote.

Anyway I know Maddow is left and no I don't agree with all of her views but she did a good job here documenting the push to make voting more difficult. I don't agree with Maddow's views on a lot of things but her show is at least well researched.

Right, but it's not the Civil-War period. So again, in modern day, I don't see how being black is relevant.

Because I think not being able to spend 5 dollars to vote is an issue of monetary standing and not race?  Great work Sherlock, we never would have made the connection without you.

i like how people think that because segregation ended 40-50 years ago racism is not in existence.

But it's the same principle. Any poll tax will serve only to discourage the poorest people from voting, and anything that discourages citizens from voting is wrong.

how about we make the punishment for crack cocaine 10x harsher then the ones for regular coke. and hey, it has nothing to do with the fact that most people who do crack are minorities.

There's no way in hell you're this retarded.

Of course it is, but it's an issue of monetary standing. I don't agree with it on that basis, I just don't see it as a racial issue.

What's his point? That asserting that some poor people aren't black is racist? It's so ridiculously absurd, there's no way I could address it. Clearly he'll think whatever crazy bullshit he wants no matter how out of step with reality it is. If anyone wants to make a "point" about how such a law(which I still don't agree with, by the way), wouldn't affect poor white people or poor Hispanic people or poor Asian people then do so, and I'll address it.
