Continuing on the theme of the fractious left, I saw this recently and cringed. It seemed to be posted in earnestness, but seemed to me like a great way to alienate people who want to help you. I've seen it before with the sort of "it's not my job to educate you about _____" in relation to experiences of marginalized groups, but the cynical side of me thinks that some potentially helpful person might decide it's not worth the effort at that point.

Where'd the other Italian dude come from? Didn't Tony only ask for Furio? Or did he request for the other guy to come for free? I can't remember.

Come up with a screaming box, sell it on amazon, and wait for the company to copy/paste it into the essentials (basics?) line and ban your product. Then grab one on sale.

I think one of the best ways to break someone down is to put them in a soulless corporation for like 30 years and then fire them before they can retire proper. Probably not an efficient way to get teenagers out of the country and onto the battlefield, though.

It would be nice if those two could have had a nice hour and a half long discussion about their political views in calm, interview voices though, right? I guess things don't always get to be that way.

But really, though? I mean the two points of view presented in the video kind of speak for themselves, but you could still comment that it's lamentable. What do you think about the man's point against marijuana legalization?

If I was a bystander that day I might mention my experience of it later on. It's definitely not something that I see every day.

I was reading something about a response that comes up around discussing race and gender things online, that being someone saying "it's not my job to educate you/just Google it". Most of proponents for it seem to justify it using something like emotional labor costs and saying repeatedly explaining or re-living traumatic experiences are taxing on people, especially those marginalized. I saw it a fair bit last summer with regard to BLM things, and had mixed feelings on it. While I could understand it would be exhausting and frustrating to repeatedly answer dumbass questions from people, it seems a very unhelpful cop-out to someone who could potentially be brought to your side (assuming questions are asked in good faith). Someone said Allies^TM should do the effort to answer, but that seems wrong to me as I wouldn't want to speak for the experience of a woman, a black person, or a trans person as if I know what that's like.

In practice, it seems to me if someone expresses an actual curiosity and is open to having their mind changed, telling someone to Google it is way more likely to make them say fuck it and give up because of that negative personal encounter purely out of spite, even if their viewpoint on the issue is still positive. If they exist in a system that oppresses others but not them, it's pretty easy to not put in the effort to change things that don't personally impact you. It was also brought up that the answer seems like a way to shut down discussion, because I'd only previously seen it with conspiracy theorists.

I agree it's a raw deal to have to put in effort and play by the arbitrary rules all the time, but that's the catch of trying to get people on your side. (Yes, I know I'm typing this as a white guy who is way more likely to be on the receiving end of this phrase.)
