I am absolutely ashamed anyone still supports Kavanaugh on the SCOTUS. He should have been withdrawn days ago. This is going to hurt the legitimacy of the SCOTUS for at least a generation. If there is ever a legitimate constitutional crisis and the supreme Court needs to decide something I full expect to hear a chorus of people from one side door the other saying "Who cares what the Supreme Court says? They will let anyone become a judge. They let a rapist on the court!"
the EU has been a liberal project from the start. a 'socialist' bloc? are you literally deluded.
and if they don't confirm him, libertards on the left - and prolly everybody else as well - will all think it's possible to do away with anyone appointed to any government position by simply raising an allegation of a crime at them with no corroboration whatsoever.SuperJail Warden wrote:

That is a completely unfounded fear that we saw debunked literally last year. Gorsuch was confirmed last year without any debate regarding his personal life. Kavanaugh is just a uniquely flawed individual who happens to be a rapist.
it's not about kavanaugh's guilt or innocence (and no, he's not a rapist - not until it's proven in a court), it's about political instruments that are allowed into use. letting kavanaugh be sunk using completely uncorroborated crime allegation this time would open a pandora's box of similar crap to be used in the future.
if you open your mind too much your brain will fall out.
This is not a criminal trial. Burden of proof, corroboration, etc. do not apply here. This is a political appointment.
We are talking about an appointment to the most important court in the world. It is not enough that he is innocent, he must be about all suspicion.

by these standards, there should be no one sitting in the "most important court in the world"

False rape allegations are especially rare. Multiple ones from past acquaintances doubly so. There are plenty of people who would pass a morality check. There are already 8 justices who did so.
did any of those 8 have last minute crime allegations raised against them?

to assume it was last minute would be to assume there is some defined timeline. The only reason it was "last minute" is because of the timeline imposed by Repubs in the Senate. Without releasing access to the large majority of documents related to Kavanaugh's time serving as a public official. Repubs are trying to play the same game Dems are, but then try to call out Dems for doing so.
i agree with all of that^. it takes two to fight. what i was trying to point out is that they - reps and dems both - totally lost track of what makes productive political struggle. the damage they are willing to do to the system as a whole seems... unreasonable to say the least.

its completely unreasonable. This is american politics in the 21st century. Polarization will hopefully lead to 3rd parties rising in popularity and power.
You'd need to fix your electoral college system first, along with the gerrymandered districts.
Preferential voting doesn't work if it's a two party system.

why's that a problem again? granted, it's a thing of distant past and doesn't really make sense anymore, but it's not really a big deal and could swing both ways.AussieReaper wrote:

Bolsonaro for president of Brazil.
Crime is out of control in America.
We need more police. Give police APCs and create random breathalyzer checkpoints. Put police substations in high crime neighborhoods. Hire more police. Put police in every school. Make the death penalty legal in every state. Give out longer sentences for violent crime. Put security cameras everywhere.

what's your angle on this?
Hmm?
I used to teach at a failing high school in Newark. Complete chaos, anarchy, very dangerous. I get a laugh out of arguing with sheltered suburban Reddit teens and college students who think schools are "too hard on kids" and there needs to be more chances for "kids to be kids".
These people have no idea what it is like to try to teach at a place where security, safety, and discipline have broken down. Libs will never understand how bad shit can get until they are in the middle of it and it is already too late.

Mayor of Portland, Maine is pushing for non-citizens to be allowed to vote in his city. Democrats in general seem to want non-citizens legal and illegal to vote.... What is the fucking point of becoming a citizen if non-citizens end up with the same rights as citizens?
The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.
your complaints are irrelevant. non-white legal citizens are going to outvote you anyway in the next generation or two, you redneck. time to learn a skill that isn’t cheese curdling or yoghurt weaving.
Its a problem here that people can get PR and all the benefits but none of the liabilities of being a citizen.
Fuck Israel
Maybe we should deport them to Britain and see how you feel about them then.uziq wrote:

that's how the native americans felt when they saw you pasty-skinned fucking yokels coming over the hill with your farmer's tans and wheels of cheese.War Man wrote:

I am pretty sympathetic to the "Europe for Europeans" line of thinking. But as far as the new world, NZ, and AUS go, we are literally living on top of dead civilizations we destroyed. Cry me a river about your immigration problems inland white people.
