Its a good plan, once the people have all starved to death the military will starve to death too.
Why does America always need a menace in the east?

well of course all the food aid goes to the military. if there's not much to go around, you're going to keep the army on side first and foremost, aren't you? it's like you think the north korean regime WANT a starving people or something. now, i know 'communism is evil kekeke' and all that, but i'm not sure it's written into communist belief anywhere that the workers should preferably all be dying of famine. i know that's the specialty of chinese-maoist communism, but really now...Cybargs wrote:

So one of my best friends from the army messaged me on facebook yesterday to catch up. We chatted for a bit, caught up on what's been going on in our respective lives recently, and then he told me that he was very happy because his disability came through at 100% for PTSD. Dude doesn't have PTSD. He was in Iraq for four months before he finally whined enough about his phantom injuries and they sent him home. I asked him why he applied for disability and he said it was revenge for the way our old first sergeant treated him... He's going to collect $50,000 tax free and annually adjusted for inflation for the rest of his life. I really wish he was unique, but he's not. I know many, many people that put in claims when they were getting out for everything ranging from hearing loss to sleep apnea. I have another friend that got out on a medical discharge (and is receiving disability) because he claimed he had sleep apnea. He didn't have sleep apnea, when they conducted the overnight test on him at the base hospital he slapped a full strength nicotine patch on his ass before he laid down for the night.
People here ask me why I'm so damn cynical when it comes to anything government, well, cases like this are why. I've known far too many people in my lifetime that will connive their way into free money if its offered to them, whether they need it or not. While waiting tables I've overheard conversations people have had about gaming the welfare system, and I bet half the people I play softball with on the weekends are claiming at least partial disability for back injuries and the like (sure doesn't stop them from swinging a bat). My friend is going to be making nearly as much as I personally earn after taxes while sitting on his ass at home on his couch. So fucking disheartening.

When you apply for disability you are assigned a percentage based on how fucked up you are according to the evaluator. 100% disability means that he is considered unable to work so he receives the maximum amount. People with stuff like hearing loss typically get 20%.

Military disability? SSD doesn't work like that.
Yes, I'm talking about military disability. I don't know how the SSD system is set up, but I know lots and lots of people that game that system too.

I could've gotten disability for my knees probably, but I had too much pride and didn't want to feel like a leach.

Of course people in the military have better programs than the rest of us just because they kick sand around the middle east for a year. In SSDI you get an amount based off of your lifetime earning average. The average SSDI receiver gets about $1100 a month. Some as low as $300 the most is about $2500. None of it depends on how hurt you are.
i guess i picked the wrong career choice. maybe i should contact that recruiter who kept harassing me every night of my senior year.
Military disability is an average of your three final years pay. Im not sure how that gets him to 50k, maybe BAH.Macbeth wrote:

jay why are you so anti-free money when you have taken... free money? this cognitive dissonance really arrests the whole forum.
not really uzi. i know america is generally shit at world politics, but NK are in a mess because they've put themselves in a mess. you can tell it's not just an american thing by the way china and russia are going 'please stop being a dick'.Uzique The Lesser wrote:

What free money did I take? Why is it so difficult for you to understand that I worked a job for pay? Jesus christ you're stupid.Uzique The Lesser wrote:

For all of its bolstering about military superiority, NK still tells its people that it didn't start the original conflict, thus driving itself ultimately into its current situation. I've seen a few documentaries filmed inside NK and the way the people act is creepy, like something out of a dystopian film.FatherTed wrote:

Pell is free money.Jay wrote:

jay a grant and a bonus incentive is just that: free money. you saying that the pell isn't 'free money' or a 'state handout' and is something 'you have earned' is the exact same sort of rationalisation that disabled people use when they claim benefits. they "earned" the money when they sustained so-and-so injury in the field. the pell was a bonus incentive. you still took a cheque for the job/labour you performed. the pell was free money. an incentive to get you to go to the desert; an incentive for the very reason that it was free money. i just don't really understand why you're so adamantly anti people taking hand-outs.
Pell isn't an incentive or combat pay or bonus or something. Pell grants are given to ANYONE who makes under a certain income limit. If my parents didn't make enough money I could have gotten Pell. So could taiwan, supmind, Brasso, etc.
you're thinking of the GI bill. difference with the GI bill you can choose to pay into it or not. If you don't pay into it you won't get it regardless of service length.Uzique The Lesser wrote:

They actually removed that requirement.

oh so jay did take free money then, not even attributable to military service. he just took free money. why can't we just get over this simple (and quite harmless) fact, and debate properly? every single thread where you put on your hardcore libertarian/relapsed objectivist hat gets held up by this giant incongruence, jay. if supmind started talking pro-fascism we'd feel the same way. if androoz registered here for a discussion of string theoy, we'd have the same disbelief. everytime you spout "fuck big government, fuck free money" lines, we see an ex-military vet who grant-skipped his way through college. it retards discussion. can we just get a little consistency and veracity?
