UK - 17th
Russia - 133th
Damn that's even worst than Mexico. But I guess transparency international just talks shit right
you understand, kiddie, that this^ does not apply to the level of politics manipulated by the likes of berezovsky, right? on that level everybody is "corrupt" - that is, the capital rules over everything, regardless of where you are - mexico, russia or uk - it's all the same.

ok, so now your guy was bribing and using corrupt powers to influence the UK high court? he had already been forced to give over lots of money by the UK high court previously in other settlements (like his divorce). clearly he was bribing them and using corrupt judges and politicians! lol.Shahter wrote:

So Bloomberg is trying to mandate that stores that sell smokes must put them out of sight. You will only see them after you ask for them. Currently smokes are always right behind the counter at eye level. I agree with Bloomberg requiring the smokes be out of sight. Seeing smokes like that normalizes it in the eyes of children. It also causes urges and attacks in people trying to quit.
Well we'll see if the experiment with changing ciggie packaging in aus (all packs are in olive green, no branding besides text). They also have smokes behind an enclosed metal counterMacbeth wrote:

we already have that here (for large stores at least), not sure what impact it's having thoughMacbeth wrote:

we have that here in regards to alcohol. a restaurant with a liquor license can't make or mix drinks in plain sight.
it makes me forget about drinking when i don't see it.

We have our smokes behind cabinets, and plain packaging. Smokers still smoke, but I guess it's to prevent new smoking or help quitting smokers rather than getting them to quit in the first place.
its like that here too, makes sense to me
So on the tv show the Amazing Race, they went to Vietnam. They had to sit through this video:
And now CBS has apologised for it, saying it may have cause offence? There are a tonne of messages on facebook (TAR posted the apology video... I 'liked' the Amazing Race facebook page) and everyone seems upset over the fact that they made everyone sit through this, and are also upset over the B52 wreckage memorial.

Thank you for the sorry. I was very, very very offended. My two sons serve this country to preseve freedom and democracy. To allow such things to be aired is not a freedom, it was propaganda socialist/communist crap that made my phyisically ill to listen to. I appreciate the ownership of your bad choice. Please never do that again.
I appreciate this apology. I was offended not only by the location, but by the fact that the racers did not even give it a glance. Most of them are young so probably don't even know or care of the Viet Nam war but I do. I remember.
They needed to apologize because they showed a downed American B52 bomber that was a memorial in the center of Hanoi.. a place where American pilots and airmen most likely died.. i can't believe people don't get it.. beyond that.. i was very vocal about the episode on this site.. i was offended because my grandfather was downed n an American bomber n WWII by the Germans... but i would like to thank CBS for hearing my voice.. and apparantly many others.. and then did the right thing
Get used to a song like that....that's the new america under obama. I didn't vote for the communist
They visited a memorial to Americans being shot down in a B-52 and killed and captured. What is wrong with you people that can't see tht this was both insensitive and wrong? A memorial that celebrates Americans being killed! It's not "visiting the country" it's a memorial to killing Americans.
Of course there are comments saying that no apology was necessary, but fuck me, do some of these people hold resentment well.PHAM: It was a memorial park built around an American B52 that had been shot down, 2 crew members, Americans, were killed and the other captured. Then to have the players listen to a glorious communist revolutionary song, Im sure that made quite a hit on the state run controlled TV news. They were used as propaganda tools by the communist Govt in Hanoi. So whats offensive about that, Americans died there defending the cause of liberty. Very disrespectful of CBS.
noice
The show just strikes me as an awful premise to begin with. A bunch of ignorant Americans rushing around the globe practically yelling "SPEAK MY LANGUAGE!" and giving a rat's ass about learning anything about another culture because WE GOTTA WIN!
my girlfriend likes the show and we started watching one of the random older seasons - oddly the most ignorant, redneck americans are the most tolerant and accepting of the other cultures. they're more willing to enjoy and appreciate the experience while the normal ones are just too cool and want to win no matter what

at the moment, it is hard for the city/state to keep track of untaxed cigarettes purchased out of state, forged with a ny stamp and sold in shops all over the city. it's a multi-billion dollar a year business and the city/state want to shut it down or at the least have a better grip on things.
tobacco products are going to go the way of liquor soon in nyc. they're going to allow tobacco products to be sold in only specialized smoke-shops or maybe even liquor stores. once it's done, they will have severely cut the number of cigarette retailers and will be more easily able to make sure everyone is selling ny-taxed tobacco products.
I saw that episode and laughed at the fact that the Vietnamese were making them sit through that. It is too bad that CBS had to apologize.

even berezovsky'es run out of money and influence sometimes. especially the kinds of berezovsky, who have powerful enemies, like those he run from russia from.he had already been forced to give over lots of money by the UK high court previously in other settlements (like his divorce). clearly he was bribing them and using corrupt judges and politicians!

I don't really care if oligarchs and their cronies are getting whacked.
Fuck Israel
People rarely stop to think. That bomber was sent to kill Vietnamese and they shot it down. They have evrry right to be proud and celebrate. Too many Americans have no real understanding of what war is and just rah rah 'the good guys' which is always us, of course.KuSTaV wrote:

Lol, people will just take twenty minutes and buy cartons in CT, long island or Jersey. Bloomberg is one of the most clueless idiots on the planet.13/f/taiwan wrote:
