USSR pretty much collapsed internally, arms race and their afghan quagmire was just the straw that broke the camels back

Spending 50%+ of your resources on your military while your people wait on line for five hours a day for bread will do it to ya.

Exposé gets Valley mom banned from McDonald's
Wed, Oct 26, 2011 - KTVK 3TV Phoenix 2:19 | 4,091,293 views

PHOENIX -- An Arizona State University professor's campaign against dirty restaurant playgrounds got her banned from several McDonald's in the Valley. Dr. Erin Carr-Jordan, a mother of four, started recording and posting videos of trashy playgrounds, and quickly built an international following. Her [...]

Germs, bacteria and viruses in McD's playplaces? Not surprising.

What is surprising is that this group of McDonald's decided to ban her from the buildings rather than to publicly find a way to clean their playgrounds up. Being confrontational about it only gives this doc's crusade impetus.

Personally, every McD's in the world could ban me and it wouldn't make any difference in my life. I don't trust their food at all. Not even their ice cream.

Well, if you want to stuff yourself McDonald's, have fun with obesity.

I'd still rather fight a huge conventional war every couple decades then risk one of these decades everything goes boom.

Except for the Cuban Missile Crisis, when was there ever a real threat of nuclear war?

Answer: Never.

Why? Because MAD was highly effective as a deterrent strategy. On both sides.

I'd like to see my grandkids, and I'd like them to see theirs.

On the plus side, there still would be families to grieve.

I'm pretty sure the GOP don't even want to win, hence they've fielded their jokers for a slow bicycle race to the finish.

Like they did last time:

Really, GOP didn't want to win the last one, economy is scheduled to begin to pick up towards the end of the next Presidential term - they'll be happy to let the Dems feel the pain in the meantime.

Then they'll be all "Like ZOMG Republicans got elected and within 24 hours the economy is booming"

Or businesses will ease up a bit on the death grip they have on their funds when Obama isn't there threatening to strip them of wealth in the name of fairness.

What is Obama threatening? A few % on tax? Which is exactly what the Republicans would do, whatever they say about cutting taxes.

He's been monkeying around with the economy since he came into office. Now that he's on the campaign trail he's promising to do even more. Economies need stability in order to grow. Instability leads to fear, and fear leads to recessions/depressions. Between the regulations, Obamacare, threats of future taxation, encouraging crony capitalism by rewarding those that are 'politically correct' (See Solyndra and the drilling moratorium), he's done nothing but foster instability. When 'big business' is your stated enemy 'big business' isn't going to pump the money required to pull the nation out of recession into the economy.

J. Crew Ad With Boy's Pink Toenails Creates Stir
So...corporate exploitation of children?

Apart from it being a commercial, would you say the activity itself could be psychologically confusing for the kid down the road or just what it claims to be: harmless fun?

I'm going with "don't twist your kids' ideas of gender around to your liking before they figure it out for themselves."

Ideas of gender? I think what is acceptable behavior for boys and for girls is an entirely artificial construct that relies on cultural norms and other things. I don't think the kid is going to end up with a cross dressing fetish or sucking cock in bathroom stalls.

Come back when you've raised a kid. Watched them develop. Or, better yet, taken a kid from one culture, transplanted them into a completely different culture, and observed them taking to appropriate "boy" or "girl" things naturally, with zero prompting--after being in an institutional environment, where they get no socialization to speak of.

There's nothing "artificial" about it.

This. The culture someone's going to live in might as well be the air they breathe, unless they want to become a hermit. Especially for kids, to whom social currency might as well be real money.

Hope the kid doesn't get beaten up in gradeschool over it.
