everywhere is more willing to let in foreign students... every where...

in fact the low ranking universities (i mean like bottom 10%) are the worst culprits, because most foreign students from shitholes like india that want to come over and study at a 'prestigious' english university en masse don't know a shit about rankings and the inner-snobbism of our system. to them, any british uni is a golden ticket. so the shitty ones spend a lot of their marketing funding and research to sell exclusively to these no cluers

I saw a program recently about British universities farming for students in places like India. Having campuses out there, charging them ridiculous fees, tempting them in with offers of free laptops and stuff. Then there's agencies that help get foreign students into British uni's, also charging fees and not really doing stuff by-the-books.

Yeah, but it's increasingly universities that were seen internally as "elite" ie the russell and 1994 groups, redbrick unis. That are farming out some shitty english style university to campuses in foreign countries as a way to gather money, the staff do a semester rota with a bit of extra pay or something and the students suffer because they have several new lecturers a year who don't know what's happening. UCL, southhampton, nottingham etc.

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

Ah you're good then. Dentists make a shit ton of money. Have a buddy who just finished Dentistry school in San Francisco. He actually used to spirit some equipment away and do dental work on the cheap for our friends. He's looking at making close to $200k a year. He turned down acceptance into Med School to go to Dental School.

1994 group is small research unis, russell group is the bigger unis.

e: pretty much if you want to pick a highly regarded british uni that has a good name/reputation those are the groups to start looking at.

uh these universities have always relied upon foreign students...

as for the rota abroad stuff, that tv programme definitely didn't shovel shit on any russell or 1994 unis

they're like the two ivy leagues of english university education... one was formed because they were smaller institutions without the endowment/financial power. the russell group is much larger and same rank.

all i remember of the programme was that it was muckraking some serious shit about metropolitan ex-polytechnic shitholes like middlesex and one of the smaller unis in liverpool. i saw very little on there about any prestigious, serious universities.

I barely remember watching it, might even have been a guardian article. Mentioned UCLs qatar campus and nottingham had opened one somewhere. Not that i'm against the idea, just seems like a fund raising gimmick to trick foreigners into thinking they're getting some age old traditional english university bullshit.

this is the reason why the 1994 group exists. my university's english department is often considered top10 in the country and the university is 88th in the world... it has about 100 english students per year and 4.8k undergraduates, period. i think the total number including postgraduates and part-timers is around 8k. it has an annual endowment of like £58 million. it's impossibly tiny even compared to other top-elite english unis (e.g. oxbridge) - and on the international scale it's impossibly small. groups like the 1994 group ensure it keeps recognition and prestige despite its tiny enrollment/financial data (which affects universities a lot in the arbitrary ranking schemes)
