sucks that you don't get an academic email address anymore over there. over here they're pretty much standard. if you're a graduate i see no reason to apply for a professional job using your shitty personal email address - be it hotmail, gmail, yahoo mail, or whatever. i personally wouldn't want job replies coming back into the same inbox as all the other useless shit that floats into a gmail box.
not going to use that one to register for forums and accounts on websites.
also a lot of academic addresses have heavy spam protection that often blocks shit from some addresses (some prof couldn't get emails from interia.eu/interia.pl addresses that a colleague in poland used), I've heard some horror stories about that.
