Military usually gets the dregs, who else is going to volunteer for a 10 year old quagmire?

People that want training in a career that interests them, people that want assistance for a higher education, some people even feel a sense of patriotism or duty. Plenty of reason why people join the military and for you to call those that serve "dregs" is a slap in the face. Especially coming from a sideliner such as yourself that has never served, yet reaps the benefits of freedom from those that do.

Well you can't really say the military as a whole.

A lot of highly motivated educated people join the infantry it is a step to higher special forces training... Training that is used on the outside. You  are simply wrong about the military being made up of "dregs".
