it is what you make it, and it's very telling that you dismiss is straightaway. twitter is a brilliant news syndicate for me and keeps me updated on music releases, gigs, tours, shows and general industry news much quicker than any other online or print journalism can. also it goes without saying that for breaking news and official bodies, e.g. my university, it's a fantastic way of getting small news updates out quickly.

my friend who works for that posh smart webdesign company malarky in cheltenham town is always buying like these super fucking expensive graphics design and typography hardcover books. they're all really smart and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. really nice looking things... and really good, too, i imagine if you're into that sorta thing. i think he's subscribed to about 5 different industry magazines, too. expensive fucking hobby... but i suppose his dayjob pays for it nicely.

do you design professionally TS or freelance / hobby?

but you don't have an online portfolio, do i remember you saying? do you just work for a straight no-thrills company or something? it's practically unheard of for a trendy young graphics designer to not have some annoyingly current-gen website complete with all the industry-magazine tricks and gimmicks. one of my friends here at uni (also english literature) does web-design on the side, but also does the (basic) graphics work... he has to revamp his site every 2 months or so just to stay 'current' and make it look 'modern'. pretty good money, though. he just gets like £750 a pop from clients from all over the world that randomly stumble across his site... not sure how. pretty nuts for a guy that isn't even really all that interested in webdesign or the internet as a business. just turns up to a party with a brand new £500 burberry coat... cause he can. fucker. makes me wish i hadn't got bored of photoshop in that typical teenage phase that everyone goes through.
