which is to be expected if you promise;

free, or near free healthcare
free, or near free education
national security spending
infrastructure spending
the dole
elderly care
help to developing countries

and so on... they really need to implement some rules to the whole system. Most of the people that end up on the operating table are 50+ and obese, why can't they take care of themselves first?

Social spending is not necessarily the root of all evil.

Irresponsible borrowing and irresponsible spending - whether its borrowing from China to pay for dole for slackers or workfare in camo for people with monobrows - thats the problem.

It's not the root of all evil no, I'm not stating otherwise either. It's just that there are no rules bound to any of those expenditures - previously the case was that you could study indefinitely with gov. funding (okay - after X amount of years, 6 or so, the gov. would stop sending you money - but it still funds the study itself with you paying a minimal amount).

Now they're going to fine people who study 2 years 'too long' (as in, say, you're supposed to get your master's in 4 years and you end up doing it in 6-7 years you're gonna get fined). Which is fair I'd think.

The healthcare system is still a giant mess though. Vast majority of the patients do not take care of their own bodies, and I really don't want to end up paying for that. If your choice is to be morbidly obese you sure as hell should pay for your own knee surgery.

Not at all, it was 'dress casual day', which is always fun with the wobbly admin girls.
I've decided I like the freckly one. I'm hoping she needs some IKEA furniture assembled because frankly its my only leverage.

You could show her your Lady Gaga shrine but that might be a bit creepy.

compare China 50 years ago to China now.

I wouldn't exactly call that human suffering so to speak.
The suffering period didn't really drop dramatically until the late 70s.  By the 80s, the Chinese government was considerably less oppressive barring a few notable incidents like Tiananmen Square and the stuff they've done to the Falun Gong.

Airbus is generally worse about that though.

He didn't start slaughtering until they started rebelling.

Maybe they should think about the big picture and not rebel?
Well that's flat out nonsense, he started murdering protesters in the street. Then they rebelled. That was the entire reason there was an uprising in Bengazi.
how many did they kill?

Well, I suppose the same could have been said regarding the French resistance vs. Hitler.

I won't argue that the US spends far too much on the military. Part of it is our foreign agreements demand it--it's expected of us. Which is utter bullshit, and is why other countries get by with spending such a low percentage of their GDP on defense: they're either our allies and we're required to help them, so why do it; or they don't have those demands upon them by others, so they don't have to spend nearly as much (though as a percentage of GDP, Russia isn't too far behind).

The "big three" in our government have to be radically addressed to get a handle on our budgetary problems, but none of our politicians have the backbone to do it.

And none of this has anything to do with why we're involved in Libya.

Back to the topic, please.
