Varegg, you really really gotta stop talking as if A Christian, is the same thing as Christianity, or A Muslim is the same thing as Islam.

They are PEOPLE and a RELIGION, they are 2 distinct things. I did not say ALL MUSLIMS are violent, nor did I say ALL CHRISTIANS try to cash in on Christianity.

I already asked you a question you bowed out from answering so I will try again. If you can state that different Muslims follow different aspects of Islam and to different degrees, why can I not judge EACH Muslim accordingly instead of you insisting I mean ALL MUSLIMS when I talk about Islam?

In my mind, to say Christianity isn't about money and power, is like saying Islam has nothing to do with Islamic violence.
"And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." ~ Matthew 19:24

you spout conservative talking points like it's your job, yet you don't have the religious zealotry to really make it pay off for you. The whole Islamic hate thing is not even backed up by a Moral Majority fervor?
You quoted Christ, you did not quote Christianity, which by and large does not follow the teaching of Christ. Christ was a humble man and did not give into material possessions. From these teachings, come the Vatican? Really? I said Christianity is about power and money, I did not say Christ was.

Islam: Hereis my problem with it. Unlike Christ, Muhammad WAS violent, taught violence, practiced violence and ORDERED violence. It is a violent religion. If a Muslim does not believe in that shit or do it, I have no problem with him, but the teachings of his religion are what they are.

When that jack off was gunna burn the Koran, everyone went nuts over it especially Muslims, When 50 people were killed over a cartoon, no one said shit about the dead 50, no, the fact that anyone would bad mouth Islam, THAT was the problem.

I can't stand Christianity, because it is all a money scam, and they are not getting my money, they take it from people stupid enough to give it to them. I can live with that. I can't stand Islam because they are always trying to blow shit up in the name of Islam, getting blown up is something I can't live with.

It's interesting isn't it how much the teachings of Christ differ from the teachings of Christianity. Jesus as he is depicted was humble, generous, peaceful, all those things but Christianity is as violent, power-hungry and greedy as any other religion. Muhammad was certainly a more violent figure but Islam and Christianity have followed the same basic path since their founding prophets left the picture. The only reason Christianity hasn't continued to be as generally violent and how it is more welcoming of secularism than something like Islam is because it benefited from being predominantly based in the west through the enlightenment and modernity - not because Christianity's founding prophet was a nice guy while Islam's founding prophet was a bit of a dick.

That's why it so pisses me off when religious folk assume atheists, agnostics or rationalists lack fundamental morals because they don't follow a religion. So many people assume that humanity needs religion for morality when really morality exists quite comfortably without religion. More comfortably even. Let me make this clear: Morality is doing what is right regardless of what you're told - religion is about doing what you're told regardless of what is right. So many times I've heard the argument "but our society was founded on the Ten Commandments". Aside from not killing, lying or stealing, honouring your parents and not committing adultery the Ten Commandments are all about how or how not you should worship God, it doesn't set a frame work for morality. Then you have Biblical moral gems like killing your neighbour if he works on the Sabbath, (Exodus 31:12-15,) or paying the father of a girl you're caught raping a small fee, (Deuteronomy 22:28-29,) or 'God Hates Fags', (Leviticus 20:13.) This is no different from any holy texts from the Bible to the Qur'an to the Tanakh... I don't know about many other religious texts but I assume the same because morality wasn't just introduced, it has developed over time and no record from a long-gone era is going to have much impact on modern-day moral values.

Went off on a bit of a tangent there.

Don't confuse Christianity (Catholics are a perfect example of pretending to be Christians) with true Bible believers. I can assure you my church is not power hungry, etc. and all the Baptist churches I've visited before aren't either.

Haha, I read parts of that book. "Allah will mislead those who chooses" or something along those lines got me laughing pretty good.

None of the churches I've been to were power hungry. Fact!

They're between 30 and 50 members (I've been to one in Texas, 1 in Arizona, and several California). Most of the pastors' wives go coupon shopping just to get the rent payed. Most of the pastors' money goes toward improving the church (new carpets, new wood floors, repaving parking lot, fixing AC) and not going into their pockets.

Take a look at other *cough* Christian *cough* churches.

Probably because religion isn't always power hungry.

Wherever you have a situation where people can attain greater authority over others, there will always be power hunger. Religion is no less guilty of this than business or politics.
