What did he do that was positive? Take the cold war to the next level? The Bay of Pigs? Screwing around with Marilyn Monroe in the White House? He had a hot wife and the media loved him but I've never understood the mythology surrounding the guy that was wholly responsible for tens of thousands of American dead in Vietnam.
He took on the cia, which basically wanted war with the soviets.

And Lincoln himself was rubbish. Nothing justifies the suspension of Habeas Corpus. He turned himself into a dictator during the war. Terrible precedent.

Shrug. No president in history did more to expand the federal governments power.

I really dont dislike bush as much as I do cheney and rumsfeld.  Bush is actually kinda likeable.  I wouldnt mind drinking a beer with him and thats who needs to run the country.  People you wouldnt mind drinking alcohol with.  Obama is a muslim so any beer he drinks has got to be near beer

I think people give Bush more blame than he deserves.

A. The economy was going to hell with or without him. He had nil control over the course of the U.S. economy.
B. Bush gets a lot of blame for the Patriot act and 'zomg undermining freedom' but the bill passed through the Senate damn near unanimously. It was popular and he had no choice really.
C. Both parties devoured the budget surplus which the president doesn't have a lot of control over it.

The one thing you can blame Bush for was the Iraqi war. IMO, Iraq was the biggest foreign policy failure since Vietnam. I know there are some vets of that war on this forum but sorry that whole debacle was a complete waste of human life, money, and time. It weakened our military, made the real assholes in the region like Iran stronger, and made us more unpopular globally. Whatever good may came out of it wasn't worth the cost we put into it.

That's the one thing you can really blame Bush for. It's a huge one sure, but Bush isn't the end of the world like some make him out to be.

Vietnam made more sense than Iraq

in terms of foreign policy

but both were inevitable, Iraq was just executed at the completely wrong time... that was his major failure.

I don't think you'll get any arguments from any of the vets WRT Iraq...

Yes probably should have given Iraq another 10 years of threats and UN resolutions to comply with the peace treaty. I think that woulda done it.
