Interesting, we're prepared to get involved in a war to protect the oppressed in Libya.
In Palestine, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia we're actively helping to oppress.

and what about the rest of africa?
One thing that probably hurt Gadhafi more than anything else was running afoul of the Arab League.  Once they started backing intervention in Libya, it was only a matter of time before the UN would pass something.

But yeah, we clearly don't give a damn about a lot of African conflicts (or what's going on in Burma for that matter).
Arab league gets vetoed when they put up anything about Palestine.

The rest of Africa is where France is playing around...particularly N Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Our involvement (thus far) is minimal.

The Libyan Air Force is a joke, the only way the UN will make an impact is by conducting strikes against ground forces and command and control centres.

That and coordinated ground attacks, particularly using armour. What I mean is that i'm not sure the rebels can win even if the air force is neutralised.

So far I've heard that 2 Libyan fighters flew to Malta for asylum, 2 pilots bailed out, and the rebels are reporting they have shot down as many as 20 enemy aircraft.

How accurate that is I don't know.

More explosions coming across the wire.
Reuters: Explosion near the headquarters of the opposition Libyan National Council in Benghazi.
Interesting definition of ceasefire, though I suppose some of these could be the rebels themselves propagandizing . Who knows..

France says military action against Libya will come 'within hours'

Pics of the preparation

Egypt's military has begun shipping arms over the border to Libyan rebels with Washington's knowledge, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

and i hope that's it.  maybe the rebels will have better luck with a no-fly zone overhead, or not.  either way they need to earn their own victory with their own blood.
