Do you really believe that American law applies to and is enforced in Austria? Or anywhere outside the USA?
US world police, eh?

And besides, downloading music is not stealing. Not even in the USA.
Theft = "the illegal taking of another person's property without that person's freely-given consent"

In the German language area the misnomer "Raubkopie", literally "robbed copy", is used by the media industry and anti-piracy groups, which is even worse, as it implies "taking or attempting to take something of value by force or threat of force and/or by putting the victim in fear".
It is stealing.
No!  We've gone over this before--it's copyright infringement.  Stealing is when you deprive someone of a material good.  They are both morally wrong, but they are fundamentally different.
thank you.

It's a crime, but it isn't stealing.  It's semantics, but then...law is semantics.

there are international laws related to intellectual property and copyrights.  It works differently depending on the offending material and nation, but to say that it (digital piracy) would only break American law is, well, stupid.

You may not think that the Hollywood A-lister needs your money, but its the unsung audio and light technicians, editors, and that guy who caters food that need the revenue generated to make a living.

Well they should talk to the fellas raking in the millions. Or join a union like they do. You can't expect the consumer to be responsible for how the profits are distributed.

Because pirates would buy everything if they couldn't pirate them. Maybe the studio brass should just stop hogging so much dough.

I'd like to see someone get charged $500,000 for a stolen candy bar if it's the "same thing."

people who get busted usually just dont steal one thing.  fail example fails.

try more like stealing a truck full of candy.

RIAA and MPAA have irreparably damaged their reputations by doing silly shit like suing the socks off of little kids and old people. Way to establish martyrs for a pirate subculture, o' defenders of the industry. The reaction [consequences, on the rare occasion a minor pirate is caught] is way out of proportion to the perceived offense.

Because they don't have a licence to host said copyrighted materials. Only the owner of copyright can give/sell/lease copyright licences for their material.

Thing is, with most record contracts these people are all paid first, the artist last.

who cares who owns what and who pays what.  the product is sold.  therefore taking it without paying is stealing.

If it wasn't for piracy, I wouldn't be spending money on music. How's that
