I don't even really take issue with the act of pirating so much as the people who try to make excuses like "the artist doesn't get enough of the money from record sales".  Just admit -

you're lazy
cheap
the media is too hard to find in traditional ways

or a combination of the above

this is exactly all i have said throughout this thread. then little shitstains like miggle that think they're 'smart' insist on digging back to 3 year old posts as if they're making a 'point' or contradicting anything i've said. no. you just haven't been reading, in all of your smug, smartarse, 'hurf durf im a pirate and im making a justifiable point!' swaggering. you're dumb fucks. admit that you not paying for something is legally and morally reprehensible. i don't care if you can't afford it, or if you're lazy, or if you don't deem certain artforms 'worthy' of payment. that's your problem and your culpability. don't make some bolshy criticism or throw some lame accusation at the artist/industry, as if it's soooo flawed.

You can take them for a perfectly legal test drive, though.

yeah, loaning a car for a 30 minute drive (covered by deposits and insurance in case you don't maintain your part of that business arrangement) is exactly the same as copying a file to your hard-drive and keeping it there, forever.

And the difference between downloading and bookmarking a song on youtube is... what exactly? In either case I can listen to it whenever I want without paying a cent.

I wasn't drawing any comparisons. I was just pointing out that you can in fact to what Dilbert said. Legally.

Well, it was Dilbert, and he mentioned an American company... so I'm sure it was a comment on "lolololololololol American cars are shit". I'm sure it's there somewhere

you know that youtube has a business model that gives cash to the record labels on license, right?

What's the difference between me bookmarking the youtube video or me having a copy stashed on my hard drive?

Good for them. They've managed to squeeze more out of Youtube than they've ever gotten out of the radio industry. I'm still not paying either way.

No, that wasn't my argument at all. Your argument was that all artists deserve to get paid and mentioned some bullshit about paying session musicians and a 750k bill like its my problem.

I've bought some CDs that were utter trash. I mean so bad that I ran my car over them in anger. If I like an artist and what they produce I'll pay for it. If I'm not sure, I'll download instead. The bands that I download wouldn't have gotten a penny out of me anyway.

The argument doesn't amount to any more than "I don't want to pay so I'm not going to".

I'd like to go to a concert for free. Does it cost them any more if I go but don't pay? No.

You still haven't made an argument for me to refute. All you've said 'moral argument' 'burn in hell' 'starving artists' 'pay the man'.

That's ridiculous. We get royalties here. My band has had numerous songs on national radio, I think we get $4 each time a song is played on Triple J. We got $240 for 15 seconds of one of our songs to be used on a tv show.

pretty sure that every radio station needs some sort of broadcast license at the very least... and pays licensing/royalties to label

source for your claim that they get nothing?
