In NYC a guy is on trial for second degree murder because he helped another guy kill himself and made it look like murder. The court is going for second degree murder even though everyone agrees the ''victim'' wanted the murderer to kill him. The "victim" asked a few other people to kill him, he took out 14 million in life insurance policies before he died, and the murderer knew things about the victim that he wouldn't have known if the victim didn't tell him.

I'm interested interested about how other members feel about this.

So lets say you had complete power to decide the mans fate, what would your punishment for him be? Or would you not even punish him?

Opens up too many dodgy precedents if you let this shit fly. Victim should have just killed himself and the Killer should have said he wants nothing to do with it.

Life insurance doesn't pay out if you kill yourself.

Do you have a link for this?  I'd like a bit more info...

Also, it reminded me of this guy.

Take your pick. I couldn't find the news article that said the defendant knew about the Ponzi scheme though.

I'd have no problem with the man committing suicide if that's the way he felt, tragic of course. But 14 million and making someone else kill you? Of course there's going to be some illegality there.

Insurance fraud would be one on the top of my mind, if this assisted suicide shit flew ok.

Loads of cases in Taiwan where a dude marries a wife and then the wife "died." Some jackass did it to 3 different women before the insurance company called for an investigation.

The payout should not occur, there should be a full investigation into whether it actually was assisted suicide, and if so the guy should get a suspended sentence. IMO.

Sounds a bit suss when it is assisted suicide meant to look like murder. But of course the guy needs motive to murder too.

Not true. Many life insurance policies will pay for death by suicide. However they usually don't cover suicide for the first year or two.

Well it is fraud for one, and although I believe in ones right to live or die by their choosing, asking someone to kill you is still murder if that person does it.

So why didn't this guy take out the life insurance policies then head into a rough area of town and start insulting people until he got shot?

Not really a sure thing is it. Could just get beaten and raped by a bunch of guys with a tire iron.
