Americans pay so much in tax and they don't even get a bloody NHS. Aussies pay less and get way more benefits.
Surprise surprise, our fed is inefficient. Not exactly groundbreaking news. Unfortunately it would seem this is a byproduct of government size.
The state however is at least a little more efficient/sustainable.. both my state and county offer health insurance discounted and sometimes free. The same goes for prescriptions depending on your economic situation.

One thing America needs to do is to go back to it's roots, as a union of states and a much more decentralized government and more powers to the individual states. But keep a united military and diplomatic branch of government.
