@ Dilbert, and Teds - in America, Honda, Nissan, and Toyota have "Luxury" brands - infinty, accura, and lexus. same base model, same MPG, just extra hardwood/leather/electronic stuff.

do you guys have those brands too?
No.. but unlike the American versions, our cars come with nice interiors from the factory

I read somewhere, that BMW, Audi and VW all put shitty interiors into their US versions to keep prices down and you Americans don't notice because you are used to the inferior plastic quality...
I've always thought that, the American versions of common cars over in Europe seem way shittier than the ones we get. Ugly bumpers and that sort of stuff, and cheap interiors.
Ye, americans hate to admit it but their car industry is failing because they just can't match the quality of imports...

What is the point of electric cars? They aren't green, since you mainly burn coal to produce the electricity it runs on. Its always much more expensive than a regular car. They have ridiculously small ranges. Why do these companies make them? Or better yet, why do people buy them?

What have we learned from this thread?

a) Europeans have a more logical view of taxes.

b) Americans have better taste in cars.

The point is that innovation requires small steps to proceed.  If no one buys the first generation electric vehicles, then there won't be a second generation.

As for the coal-burning power plants, that's certainly a valid issue, but it's a separate one.  Moving our power plants away from fossil fuels and towards things like nuclear power is another agenda altogether, although it is essential to cleaning up the environment and making electric vehicles a true solution to oil dependency.

I dont know anyone except UAW members that think otherwise. Good try though.

When it comes to reliability, Japanese cars are best.

However, several studies have shown that American cars often outlast European ones.  BMW's prestige and pricing vastly overshoots its reliability, for example.

I meant more, if you buy a BMW, for example, in the US, it'll come with some ugly ass bumper attached and the interior will be vastly inferior to what comes on the European model.

I didn't know about the bumper, but yes on the interior

I'm not supporting electric cars in any way by saying this I hope, but where I live 80% of our electricity comes from wind turbines
