So you think that the trial isn't a giant waste of money and time? Why don't we have all the witnesses that witnessed it go to court as well.

What a terribly sad story.  What completely blows me away is that the father was a doctor.  You think a man with that level of higher education would posses the knowledge and common sense to not let his eight year old son fire a fully automatic sub machine gun.  The orchestrator of the event is ultimately responsible for this tragedy since he failed to provide adequate supervision over the operation of a very dangerous weapon ( an automatic Uzi isnt your run of the mill firearm as im sure you're all aware).

But he effectively handed the gun to a teenager without clear instructions on who he could hand it to.
That still doesn't make manslaughter a reasonable charge.

I think this is just a case of an overzealous prosecution.  A boy died, but a father is ultimately more responsible for the fate of his son than anyone else is.

yes...

but the adults there who watched should be punished by not be allowed to own guns or operate a gun since they are obviously too stupid and irresponsible.

So you revoke his gun rights, you don't charge him with manslaughter.

If some father puts a loaded automatic weapon in the hands of his 8 year old son, I'm not going to intervene.  I'm going to walk away from the area in the hopes that the kid doesn't accidentally shoot me.

That might have been similar to the reactions of any witnesses in this.  Can you really blame them for that?

Do you think drug dealers should get life in prison when a junkie dies too?

8 yrs old is too damn young to be shooting a fully automatic sub-machine gun. The end. That said, the chief does not deserve manslaughter, but maybe a negligence charge for putting a 15 year old in charge of an Uzi. A manslaughter charge would be overkill in this situation anyway.
