Call me Debbie Downer but I don't see how he's a success story or anything else people have been saying about him.
I don't know. meh
Yeah he is famous because someone else posted a video.
Working by a traffic signal hoping to get noticed and given some money? That's what most homeless people do.

Was Don lafontaine also convicted with armed robbery, assault, battery theft and posession?
I take it for face value. He got himself clean and sought a different path. So what if he was able to improve himself via the internet. He was clean and sober enough to see the benefit of that exposure. If he were still on drugs and drunk, do you think he would have gotten his second chance? Would he have even cared?Macbeth wrote:

Those are the kind of charges that are associated with being homeless, unfortunately.
most homeless people that aren't just flat out crazy have a talent for making poor choices.

He's got that classic old school way of delivery and all that, but there's also a hint of Obama.

i was homeless at 17. today i own a home. one of the best decisions of my life was to make my own way, and when i was in college, i wrote a dissertation on homelessness.Reciprocity wrote:

i disagree, almost half this country is living paycheck to paycheck, and our last recession added to the homeless' numbers.
i guess but not really.Poseidon wrote:

if you're living paycheck to paycheck and the only thing keeping you out of a cardboard box is your Wendy's salary I'd say that's a pretty good accumulation of poor choices.
What makes you think "good" choices means you're not also living pay cheque to pay cheque?Reciprocity wrote:

what makes you think any of the choices those people made are "good"? there's a difference between being able to pay for something and affording something.AussieReaper wrote:

The only people not living pay cheque to pay cheque, are either self funded retirees or those with a large enough inheritence. The choices you make isn't going to change this.Reciprocity wrote:

Good on him to turn himself around like that.
i could've "afforded" a house 3x what i actually paid for my house, and i seriously doubt you bought a house for ca$h.Reciprocity wrote:

I'm not saying that paycheck to paycheck living is is bad or an indication of poor choices. Not living within your means, not having marketable skills, these are poor choices. My sister and her husband are in the process of losing their home because they bought a house they could only afford with him working overtime for a forest products company. In this economy he's lucky to have job much less overtime hours. They made a poor choice.AussieReaper wrote:

for fuck sake, you dunce, if losing your job, whatever you fucking do, means you're homeless and destitute, I guaran-fucking-tee you made some poor fucking choices. whether it was shitting out a bunch of kids you couldn't afford or buying a house you couldn't afford or not saving any fucking money or not getting an education/marketable skillset- you made some bad fucking decisions.burnzz wrote:
