Still a perceived victory for Obama, and he needs all the help he can get if he's interested in 2012.11 Bravo wrote:

We don't know that for certain. There is a chance that he might run up against opposition elsewhere in the Democratic party.

Good point I was aware of that too, It slipped my mind. A tuff race for the party nomination could soil him for the Presidential too, again ~ Good point!unnamednewbie13 wrote:

again read, i ment nobody should have to accomodate or even take into consideration any religious beleafs regardless of the type of conversation (unless it's about that shit specifically). working environment or not, religion has no place in public, it should only happen behind closed doors between like-minded people, period.Hunter/Jumper wrote:

i should not have to restrain myself from doing anything because of shit like "deep religious beleafs" at all. as long as people have a right to be religious they should also have a right not to give a fuck about religion.Hunter/Jumper wrote:
the point is the topic shouldn't come up in a work related conversation, you could for instance offend someone with deep religious beliefs.

Again.. doesn't the law say gays can not serve? DADT was put in place to protect gays. Right?

I would imagine that the repeal bill included a reversal of policy regarding open gays. I don't think the Congress is fucked up to the point where they left that part out.Kmar wrote:

Don't Ask Don't Tell is still in affect.
No. The only way to do that is to revise the UCMJ. If the point is to make it easier for gays in the military then they should have revised it first. It seems Congress doesnt know much or care about procedural justice. Big surprise. As it stands now, with out dont ask dont tell, if someone is suspected of being gay the miltary must investigate it. If the allegations are found true then a disharge must be started.

If Obama gets this pushed through and Guantanamo Bay shut down by 2012 he can consider himself President until 2017.
Kmar is right. -_-
This is what I get for quickly skimming instead reading thoroughly. >_<Even after Obama signs the repeal into law, he -- along with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Defense Secretary -- must issue a certification stating the Pentagon is prepared to implement the repeal in a manner that won't hurt readiness, effectiveness, cohesion or recruiting. DADT will still be law until 60 days after certification. Until then, therefore, service members are still at risk of being discharged or investigated.
People are getting excited because dadt became a political rallying point. This despite the fact that dadt was designed to protect the privacy of gays in the military. Rather than educating the public with what the true problem is, congress simply folded for votes. I'm sure common sense will lead to a revision to the ucmj. But the ignorance here still irks me. It's this type of reactionary legislation, with out considering actual results, that causes so many problems in our government. The road to hell truly is paved with good intentions.

dadt would have had a point had it not been just about gays, but other issues that could lead to unneeded tensions as well. religion, political views - the list would have to be quite large.

Good points, but I guess this is more an indictment on our culture itself since it was an issue to begin with. We're apparently not evolved enough yet to be able to deal with having gays serve openly.Kmar wrote:

Maybe its time to evolve. The Pentagon has already researched and concluded there's no impact. Its time to evolve from DADT to nobody gives a crap, as long as your fighting.Turquoise wrote:

Well leave it to the Government to fuck up the Military. NCOs must be able to insult subordinates through name calling without being disrespectful to their fellow soldiers. We have always been able to use homosexual insults for this our fellow soldiers weren't gay. No more Candy Ass, Meat Gazer, ........ or you will get shot in the back the first time you are combat. And yes, by shot in the back I don't mean ass raped but that could happen too now.
So the US Military is no longer off limits for social Engineering. The US needs a 5th branch of the service now, The Queer Force. They could specialize in attacking the rear of our enemies.
