Hahaha, big man on campus. I just don't like preventive, Bush-doctrine warfare. Tell me how Iraq was ever a REAL threat to us. We thought they had WMDs, they didn't, and we ended up in a multi-year mess with thousands of our own men and women dead and countless scores of Iraqis dead... for what? To put in place a weak democracy? Saddam was a piece of shit and I'm glad he's dead, but I'm left wondering if it was worth all the costs.

I get the impression you classify the entire population of Iran as your enemy, and you know as well as I do that if war with Iran comes to fruition, it's not just gonna be the "head lopping fanatics" dying.

If we do go to war with Iran, would you sign up to fight (if you're eligible to, that is)?

I don't answer to you.  But, naivitey it what it is.  Funny to me.  I value my enemies' lives less then mine and my kind.  You think that the head lopping fanatics over there want peace?  You think Iran is going nuclear because they want peace?  In the last 2000 years of recorded history over there, has there really ever been peace?  How old are you?
Remind us how many wars Iran has started lately, compared with, say, the US.

Ten years ago Iran was relatively moderate, Bush ended that and triggered them to start a nuclear program.

Moderate like you'd label the US?

Big Man on Campus?  Nah.  Those guys wear the medals.  You can make fun of them if you want... Bush-doctrine warfare?  BS.  The D's were just as onboard.  Where in this thread did I advocate the US go to war with Iran???  Israel needs to.  We should supply whatever behind the lines support to them too...

Iraq was worth it... But hell, you've really gotta toss us the crystal ball earlier on.  All of this could have been avoided.  Saddam the master showman?

So you basically just want a war by proxy? And yes, going to war with Iran over the current situation is Bush doctrine warfare... look up "Bush doctrine" some time and you'll see what I mean.

I'm still failing to understand how introducing more instability to an unstable region through war is a good thing. A war with Iran, whether it's waged by Israel or the US, certainly won't win us many more friends in Iraq or Afghanistan.

you know if Israel went to war we wouldn't just sit on the sidelines occasionally sending them bread and bullets.

I wouldn't be surprised if we sent 'advisers'... followed by 'just some support'... you know the rest. I just feel like we've got bigger fish to fry (Afghanistan, and plenty of domestic issues) and a war with Iran (whether we're directly involved or just providing beans, bullets and bandages) is just gonna distract us from those things.

Haha.  Bush Doctrine means I support Israel's right to defend themselves?  The United States up to the bamster has supported its allies.  Where do you think the majority of our ammunition is all ready (and still) being sent/sold to?  Winning friends?  Newsflash... those lines in the sand have been drawn.  We won't ever 'win' friends regardless of what we do there.

You quipped about an unstable region?  Yea, let the area you deem 'unstable' have nukes.  Great plan.

Earlier today, I ordered Americas armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraqs nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors.

Their purpose is to protect the national interest of the United States, and indeed the interests of people throughout theMiddle East and around the world.

Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighborsor the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons.
I want to explain why I have decided, with the unanimous recommendation of my national security team, to use force inIraq; why we have acted now; and what we aim to accomplish.

In short, the inspectors are saying that even if they couldstay in Iraq, their work would be a sham.

Saddams deception has defeated their effectiveness. Instead of the inspectors disarming Saddam,Saddam has disarmed the inspectors.

This situation presents a clear and present danger to thestability of the Persian Gulf and the safety of peopleeverywhere. The international community gave Saddam one lastchance to resume cooperation with the weapons inspectors. Saddam has failed to seize the chance.

And so we had to act and act now.
Bush Doctrine my ass. .. and don't forget the Carter doctrine, which basically stated that we would use military force to protect our economic interest in the ME (OIL).
