all the black bread i tried abroad was awful, but then again i never been to usa, only around yurop. maybe were you live they actully get you the genuine article. true russian rye bread looks like this:

Right, it's made with molasses instead of sugar. I've made it myself. There are a lot of old Russian Jews living in my area.
