No one who has played this fails to understand that Uzique. They're just looking for different shit than you are. It's ok to not like Skyrim. I out right hated the previous Elder Scrolls games, but it's kinda annoying for people to read this thread and repeatedly see you insult them for liking the game. Is it a nerdy fucking game? Most definitely. But you played TFC competitively, that's super nerdy also.

Skyrim is good at what it does, creating a world that people can explore at their own pace and find fun things to do. And it is good at doing this. I know because I've played the other Elder Scrolls games and they were straight trash, so was Fallout 3. You're someone who is more into fast paced action games and one that you can play with or against other people. Just because you don't see any appeal doesn't mean anyone else can't.

And yeah, the story does suck. No objection there.

"[Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim] Discussion Thread" is a discussion thread (like, hate, etc). But the same argument being made over and over again is a clear disruption to those who actually play and want to discuss the game. As well written and your point might be Uzique, it is still trolling. Please move on. Everyone else who mindless quotes to fuel the flames, stop. Thread open, back on topic.

Hahahaha. You clearly haven't played The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Skyrim looks toyish in comparison.

yeah, graphics are amazing. i mean a game made in 2011 utillising only dx9, with textures for things like wood clearly taken from a google images search for 'small' 150x150 pixel results only... incredible. stunning game.

The graphics remind me of STALKER a bit, technically they are total shit and if you break it down into texture resolution or whatever then you will obviously think it is crap, however when you are actually playing the game and exploring it all works really well. Things like distant clouds on the mountains, blizzards when you are on said mountains, low lying fogs in the swampy areas are all done well.

Video games are kind of dumb to argue about because while Uzique approaches this as a powergamer who wants massive challenge (and keeps comparing it to MMOs for some reason - there is no comparison there, they are completely different) other people approach it as a game where you immerse yourself into a different world and explore, buy a house, solve some peoples problems, learn more about the world and its factions, history etc.

I really struggle to tell if you are trolling sometimes Uzi, most of the time I hope that you are because it is sad to me to have someone just hate almost every game he plays.

it's sad to me too. i've spent a few hundred £'s these last few years (not including the cost of the actual dx11 gaming rig) and every game has been shit. games made in the quake era were literally far superior in every single way. it's not even funny where the games industry has gone in recent years, and is indeed still going. people are just more and more impressed with mediocre crap-- and indeed, try so damn hard to find reasons to like a game that is only 'meh'. from what i've read morrowind excels this game in almost every single way, just as tfc excels over battlefield 3. what other artform/entertainment medium actually goes backwards in quality over time? it's like the tv industry starting out in full HD and then 'advancing' back into black and white.

Yeh, I actually do agree with you. I guess I just am good at ignoring it or expecting far worse, and end up satisfied.

I like to think that as the old games had that core gameplay that was fantastic with not much else, and more modern games have not much core and a ridiculous amount of "outside filling" that perhaps when graphics plateau and more focus is put on writing/ai etc these two things will combine to make great games. This is pretty idealistic though, with MW3 outselling everything yet again.

edit: ..eh I don't know, I read that after I wrote it and still agree with it but I have played a lot of Skyrim and really enjoyed it.

Graphics plateau is a long ways away.

I guess it is more "I think they have plateaued" - obviously they haven't but they are good enough that other things need to improved to catch up. The major complaints about games are not graphics but gameplay, ai, writing.

I agree with you as well, it's becoming more and more evident that games are no longer about quality in any aspect, whether it be the feeling of accomplishment, graphics, and sometimes even the story itself.  Everything is just commercialized and marketed towards the average idiot with a console because that's the majority.  There's not much depth or effort being put into anything anymore, it's just being hyped up and rushed to market so everybody can get the "newest and best game"

I think this is a similar phenomenon to BF3, everybody's been expecting Skyrim for almost as many years, and now we find it it's pretty much as mainstream, easy and consolized(right down to paying 60 fucking dollars for the PC version) as ever.  The day 1 stability has been much improved over previous Bethesda releases thanks to the new engine, at least for me, but it's very evident in everything else in the game, such as still having DirectX 9 graphics 5 years after the last game, the unresponsive UI, and the retarded dual-wielding setup, that the PC has also become an afterthought for Bethesda.

Mind you, I like this game better than BF3 and I'll still play this game, but a little part of me will always feel like it's not quite what it could've been.  This is the way PC gaming dies...

Skyrim might be main stream and consolized but it's still at least 30 times better than Morrowind or Oblivion.

the only complaint i can think of so far is the inability to create custom spells.  that was one of my favourite features in oblivion for sure.

i wonder how long itll be before we get some good mods coming out.  and if there will be any worthwhile dlc - i found all the oblivion ones dumb.

this game becomes way too easy.  i literally one shot kill everything now.  paired with the lame combat system made this game pretty boring

i don't remember fallout getting this easy

I think it's crucial for Bethesda to have some kind of immensely overpowered somewhat common enemies like Deathclaws for Fallout and whatever the hell you would consider that for Oblivion, it looked like it was pretty much everything once my brother got to a high enough level which is part of the reason I never tried to beat Oblivion even though it likely wasn't that level dependent to beat it.

It really does feel like everything is just given to you in Skyrim though.  Really my personal biggest qualm with the game is that the economy is just completely broken and nothing has any actual worth since money and high-selling equipment are both so easy to come by.  There's no need to grind to be able to afford that next awesomely powerful/cool looking sword or piece of armor; if you're willing to try enough times with lockpicks, you can have really good shit at lvl 1 and break the balance of the entire game, and if you don't do anything, you'll probably find whatever you were looking for in a chest somewhere or on someone you have to kill who was shit at using it anyway.  For me, the attraction was always the items I guess more than anything else.

Dragons should have been that overpowered enemy and they should have not used the soul thing. Making them a commodity rather than a dangerous opponent just trivialises them and makes them meaningless.

I think if this game had been released back when games were hard, dragons would have been rarer and much stronger and traps in dungeons would have been lethal all game long at the very least. Would have made it much more engaging to play.

I think dragons should've been like Oblivion gates where there's only a certain number of them and they didn't respawn in the area you defeated them in before.  Like you said, they should totally be a commodity and a limited one at that.  It should also be a level-specific epic battle with every single one, and by no means easy ever, they should also not get their asses handed to them by anything else like those Mammoths I saw take one down in just a few seconds but I guess there's only so much you can avoid with the new weird leveling system

Having dragons respawn, especially so often, also really ruins the immersion with having dragons in the game, now there's one every other time I go to Dawnstar.

They're like the element-breathing Cliff Racer of Skyrim the way they are now
