When it comes to how they should be treated by medical staff yes I can. Who deserves to be treated with dignity, anyway?dayarath wrote:
You can't possibly put a genetic trait in the same category as being a fucking fatso weighing over 400 pounds.
It's true that some people have a disposition towards becoming fat but letting yourself reach such absurd levels of fat is simply ridiculous.
Dignity is relative. I would argue it's not possible to be transported to a hospital with dignity if you are ridiculously fat.Ticia wrote:

Sure, staffs shouldn't harass you, but dignity has already left you at that point.

I'm sorry but extremely severe obesity is frowned upon as much as someone who is spending his entire day, every day playing computer games.Ticia wrote:

both are cases of severe self-neglect and a lack of self control.

Why do you feel it's somehow less bad?Ticia wrote:

Maybe I should equate it to alcoholics to make you feel more comfortable?

People who recover from such conditions and end up taking care of themselves, or generally people who do take care of themselves.Ticia wrote:

Yes, I feel that smokers getting smoking related diseases are themselves at fault, people in rehab, alcoholism, all the same.
This is pretty ridiculous though because the problem is so bad they need special ambulances, no other patient needs that.

lol sad but true... and nobody is addressing the problem, if anything its going to get worst... sooner or later they are gonna be using semi trucks to transport peopledayarath wrote:

Why are people spending so much time and effort crying about 0.0001% of the population? There's fat fucks in the world. Who cares?

All it takes is an okay-ish eating pattern and excersise once in a while. If you do that you're fine by me.Ticia wrote:

I'm more than fine but that's another story lol
Obesity is rising... and this level of obesity is becoming more common. If this wasn't the case, these vehicles wouldn't be built. Supply and demand, remember?JohnG@lt wrote:

Probably the most relevant part of this is that these lifestyles are costing society more. Sometimes, you have to rein people in if they can't take care of themselves properly.
Hoarders are a good example of this sort of problem.
Our population is rising. These types of people are rising in proportion with our population. If ton sized shut-ins were common, they wouldn't be news.Turquoise wrote:

Shut-ins are news partially because they are outliers still, but even when they become more common, the freak factor will still make the news.JohnG@lt wrote:

Yes, our goal as humans should be to shame people into conformity. That'll show 'em.Turquoise wrote:

It does work to a point. Societies with more peer pressure tend to have fewer freaks.JohnG@lt wrote:

The funny part is, you're probably one of the people who thinks anti-bullying laws are fabulous.Turquoise wrote:

Um... No. I think that bullying people on the net can be fucked up, but I'm an ardent supporter of free speech. You shouldn't be able to blame someone's suicide on an internet post -- that's bullshit.JohnG@lt wrote:

Even the guys who outed that student that killed himself should be sued, but they shouldn't go to prison. That's going way overboard.
One of the few areas I support censorship has to do with funeral protests, but that's because only a freak would actually protest a funeral.
Regardless, bullying and peer pressure are double edged swords. They're just as likely to get people to smoke or drink because it's 'cool' as it is to shame them into becoming 'normal'. You've got very fucked up views, especially since you're the one who would lose if people suddenly became mass conformists. I bet you would enjoy attending Catholic service every Sunday.Turquoise wrote:

I'm not denying that peer pressure can be bad and that religion is bullshit.JohnG@lt wrote:

Granted, if I really wanted to manipulate people, religion would be one of the easiest routes. That's the funny thing about religion. I'm willing to bet most religious leaders actually are atheists -- it would explain how their actions are completely devoid of any fear of a god's retribution.
But hey, I'd rather be "fucked up" than idealistic.
