lol, ignorance. running is only the basis of like 90% of all sports and probably the most classic sport of all time. but you know, no big deal.
and imagine the kind of deals you can get being an olympian + commonwealth + world games athlete. she'll be making more money than you could dream of easily quite soon
lol at making money for running. Dreams
a girl i've known since i was like 10 is going to be in the 2012 olympic running team, has a scholarship to long beach uni and is gonna run for american teams... all for big $$$. she broke like every single running-based sporting record at my school and then went on to thrash all sorts of regional/county/national competitions. she used to get up every day before school and run 1500m minimum, whatever the weather. hardcore.
running makes money, galt. you seem to think that anything that doesn't conform to your model of 'success' is a folly...
Hardly. Obviously I can never compete on an annual salary basis with the top athletic performers in certain sports. I never expect to make $22 million a year like Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez or any number of NFL quarterbacks. But to say that running is a path to becoming a millionaire is simply a pipe dream. Running, and especially distance running, doesn't carry the promise of a fat paycheck with it. There's no market for it, there's no ticket sales, and it's hardly ever must-see-tv. I can list the number of track and field athletes that I can name offhand on both hands. And that's going back almost thirty years. It's simply a niche market and niche markets are not where money is made. You can survive on the proceeds certainly, but you're not going to be as wealthy as Winston seems to think you can be.
Edit - And the pension plan for professional athletes is about as good as that of prostitutes and strippers.
