If we have the time and get a chance to visit the area on a tour prior to the launch, what would you recommend to go check out?

Kennedy Space Center itself. .. the visitor complex.

Orlando is a relatively short drive.. but you'll want to make a day out of the things it has to offer.

Bah. Figures the ticketsale for the viewing the launch at NASA spots is closed So gotta go to that place you recommended. Seems like visiting the space center itself is a no go but to those who already have tickets for viewing the launch.

watched the rollout last night for a bit...

why do they roll it out so many days ahead of time?
Kmar

That is just the amount of time to roll it out to prepare. It doesn't leave the VAB one minute sooner than it needs to.

One of my buddies at NASA gets to walk out with it .

It will be pretty apparent when you get there. Titusville is a very small town.. you'll see crowds of people. Just park anywhere along the water. Get there early and you should be able to see it sitting on the pad. You can't miss the VAB looking out over the water .. it's huge. The shuttle will be to the left of it , North looking east. I'll still see if I can take a screenshot of where exactly I parked last time.

I took this just prior to the last night launch.. the VAB is to the right.

Do you think Space View Park in Titusville would be a good place to view the launch with a million other ppl?

Some website said it's the next best thing to the Nasa causeway. So we gotta hop early in the car. Hmm. It's a thursday. Any idea is the traffic going to be bad or terribad at around 8am from Miami beach to Titusville?
Kmar

I would think 8am should be enough time for a 4:50 launch. traffic is always terribad when there is a launch. I've seen ppl run out of gas stalled in traffic ..lol.

Yesyes. Gotta just point and press autofire on the camera and ask the missus to aim the videocam somewhat towards the shuttle. The distance is prolly so long anyways that I won't get any good footage. Gotta enjoy the launch properly

yea just remember there will always be footage.. even if it is not yours. You'll only get to witness it once though .. you don't want to remember it through a viewfinder.

The six astronauts who will fly the space shuttle Discovery on its final mission to the International Space Station arrived at NASA's Florida spaceport today, four days ahead of their Feb. 24 launch. The crew expressed confidence that all will go well wit.

Yes Houston. That is where the Flight Crew Operations center is at. .. and that is where they train and prepare.
