It is indeed sad that it is the final flight of such a magnificent craft, but at the same time it is the beginning of a new chapter in space exploration.

The sun is at a bad angle for a rendezvous with the ISS now. Good thing I didn't drive out there.. But I decided a 60% go wasn't worth it.

Think they had 3 hours to go when they scrubbed it.

For anyone interested the SpaceX Falcon 9 demonstration launch for NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program is scheduled for Dec 8  between 9AM EST to 12:22PM EST. I'm gonna watch and I think it is going to be on Nasa TV.

edit: Oh and Discovery's launch has been pushed back to Feb 3, 2011

Discovery Mission Specialist Injured, But OK
Sun, 16 Jan 2011 04:48:56 AM UTC+0200

STS-133 Mission Specialist Tim Kopra was injured Saturday in a bicycle accident, but he will be OK. However, there could be an impact to his duties for shuttle Discovery's STS-133 mission to the International Space Station. That possibility still is being evaluated.

Further details of his injury are not being released at this time due to concerns for his medical privacy.

Meantime, technicians in the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida are working through the weekend on making strengthening modifications on Discovery's external fuel tank stringers.
Discovery and its six astronauts are targeted to launch Feb. 24.
Injured but ok. That's a bit weird way to put it.

I really really really reeeeeeaaaaaaaalllyyyyyyyyyyyyy hope that date will hold!

You reckon a monopod would be enough for camera stability when shooting the launch?

Goodie. Don't have the urge to drag the tripod with me Now I just have to hope for clear skies and no more troubles for the shuttle. Prolly best to arrive muy early to the place since it's the last launch for that heap.

There is a long strip of beach in titusville that anyone can line up on and watch.. but yea.. it gets packed. I recommend getting there early, bring some lawn chairs, a radio (tune in to commentary), food.. You'll prolly just want to chill and wait for the traffic to thin. that is what we usually do. Consider it to be like a picnic . Mosquitos shouldn't be a problem in Feb. Weather will most likely be nice.
