The Dark Knight Rises

Deadline has confirmed something that has been suspected for some time – Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to reunite with his Inception director Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises. No one knows what role he will play, but rumor sites have been suspecting that Hugo Strange is part of the threequel story. Before there was even a screenplay, the rumor-mill pegged Levitt as The Riddler… but that seems too obvious a choice for Nolan. Other early rumors had JGL replacing the departed Heath Ledger as The Joker, but Nolan has gone on record saying that The Joker would not be recast and or appear in the new film. Also, with Bane and Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) already announced, it seems unlikely that the film would involve a third villain.

They also talk as if just Bane and Catwoman will be the villains. That... really sucks if they're ending it at 3 movies.

Poseidon: Nolan was always going to stop at 3 movies. He rebooted the franchise and after he's done, it's someone else's turn to take a stab at continuing the story.

Why go for Bane and Catwoman as his finale though? I suppose 'cause aanother showdown with the Joker was out of the question...

Of course Bane is known as "The man who broke the Bat", maybe that's going to be the whole point, Tom Hardy breaks Christian Bale and the rest of the movie is Bale in physiotherapy. And then Anne Hathaway comes along for some reason.

Well, as long as they don't just stop at 3, I'm fine. Though Bale also said he's done after 3. I think with another director the movie can succeed, but I don't know how you can replicate the uniqueness of Bale's Batman. It was literally 10x better than any other version, even nipplesuit Batman.

I personally liked Michael Keaton's Batman with Tim Burton. I thought that had a very similar, dark feel that Nolan and Bale have made together.

Keaton's Batman even lent a dark sense of humor to the character, e.g. stuffing live explosives down one of a Penguin minion's shorts and shoving him into a manhole after flashing an evil grin (Batman Returns).
