SourceMicrosoft has been very secretive about the next version of its Windows operating system. After the success of Windows 7, everyone is very interested in the next iteration – Windows 8. A few leaks have been the only source of news about Windows 8 till now.
However, a slip up from Microsoft Netherlands have put the release date in October 2010. Microsoft Netherlands published an article to mark the one year anniversary of the Windows 7 launch. The article deals with, well, Windows 7. However, in the last paragraph, this was mentioned:Translated into English this meansVerder werkt Microsoft uiteraard aan de volgende versie van Windows. Maar het zal nog zo’n twee jaar duren voordat ‘Windows 8’ op de markt komt. Two years from now means October 2012. If this is correct and Windows 8 is supposed to be released In October 2012, we should see the first beta in early 2012.Furthermore, Microsoft is of course the next version of Windows. But it will take about two years before “Windows 8 ‘on the market.
First to say that this one is going to suck balls. Really badly.
'98 - Good.
ME - Terrible
XP - Good
Vista - Terrible
7 - Good
Therefore 8 will be crap

I need around tree fiddy.
I dunno. Win7 is pretty good. I can't seem them screwing up Win8 (or whatever they are going to call it) since they already have a good foundation with Win7....but then again, this is Microsoft after all.
I actually agree with this. While I have not had ME installed, a lot of my friends had (have?) issues with it. Win 2k pro was supposed to be much better. Atm I'm really happy with win7, I especially like how everything updates itself, drivers and all. I did miss hardware audio acceleration at first but now I don't care about it any more since the PC is out of the chain. Maybe Win8 will bring USB 3.0 support or is it already available via update?presidentsheep wrote:

Win8 is rumored to have an instant-on feature and Ballmer has said it's their riskiest project ever (or perhaps currently; there's an article on Download Squad, iirc, with the quote).
I like Win8 has the potential to be very good, though. I don't think MS is going to make the same mistakes that they made with Vista, they've got a good thing going with Win7 and there's no reason to really change anything. Maybe a new file system and that instant-on feature and keep upping the scaling for multicore CPUs. Beyond that, what really needs changing?

I still run Win XP. Is there any real reason for me to upgrade to windows 7?

Most people hate Vista. I've never had a problem with it.
Once you've used both Vista and Win7 you see the difference in a big way.CC-Marley wrote:

I hope they don't use the Win7 foundation.. They used the same foundation for, idk, 95, 98, ME and XP, then a different one (based around Aero) for Vista and 7.. I want something new and fresh, kinda getting tired of the bloat and feel of 7.killer21 wrote:

Something more like Ubuntu would be nice.

Windows 8 will have something to do with it I'm sure.
I use both. I like both equally.CapnNismo wrote:

I didn't really say it did. I like Vista, too, aside from the fact that it's a resource hog. Win7 is nice and snappy, used it on my hexacore machine and my friend's netbook (with Aero!) and it's absolutely fabulous.RTHKI wrote:

It's so far off I'm not even interested in it. I suppose if I developed Windows apps for a living, I'd follow the news more closely....everyone is very interested in the next iteration – Windows 8.
I hope they give it a big cat's name just to pull Apple's chuff.killer21 wrote:

Windows ME was one buggy piece of crap. It was one of the worst OS that I've ever used..Sup wrote:

I've been looking for a firmware upgrade to 3.0 but I'm not sure if that is possible other than installing the 3.0 USB card they have out now.
win 98, win XP and Win 7 are the only OS that i have respect for. there a whole lot reliable that what is out there. Mac OS is close but no cigar.
Win ME was total utter piece of crap. can anyone say computer Freeze. vista will cause your computer to come to a screeching hault. poor efficiency from experience even with all the tweaks i put into it.

Am I the only one who'd prefer them releasing a OS then patching and supporting it for a decade before releasing a (good) new one?
